This is more of Rex’s mind games with New England. The news story, the depth chart, all of it…just a diversion. This is more “fake punt” trickery. Now it is “fake running back”. Tebow will take a couple handoffs early in the game to throw the Pats off balance, and the rest of the game he’ll line up and block, participate in trick plays, and hopefully be a diversion. The Jets coaches do NOT want to see Tebow succeed, i.e. score a TD or lead a TD drive, unless and until they are ready to make a move to Tebow, and we are not there, and may never be there. (I’m not implying that the coaches dislike Tebow or are trying to sabotage him, but Tebow success in any position will just turn up the heat on themselves.)
If by "throw the Pats off balance" you mean sticking 8 in the box every time Tebow is on the field. Then I believe you're correct in that statement. It is all smoke and mirrors from Rex, this is also true.
I think the Jets want to win and anything they can to do that, though Sparano play calling is not good. Hopefully they use him more, this is the game to do it, big underdogs on the road in an important rivalry game.
I used to be on the Tebow = RB bandwagon but now I'm off it. We already have a line of RBs that only have the ability to pick up 2-3 yards on a regular basis. So Tebow doesn't add anything to the run game we don't already have in spades. I guess he could fill in for FB because he seems to block ok in limited plays. Other than punt protector Tebow doesn't seem to add much value to the team.
That one of the dumb ass thing that ever been said. Coaches want every player on there team to succeed. Just because he not playing as much as u Tebow nuts want him to. It people like u I wish we would trade Tebow.
Well I was speaking specifically to the alleged or potential transition to RB. However, to answer your question, generally none, but then again most teams don't sub the backup in and out on the field when the starter is healthy.
I think its possible that they'll plug in Tebow as a third down back. We all know Greene is no good in pass protection, Powell is out, Mcknight probably won't go and Grimes is untested. Tebow has definitely showed that he can block when he's in there. I think he could contribute in pass protection and if anything will confuse the pats a little bit
And if this is the case Rex is NOT willing to do anything to succeed. Instead of being able to put a few more points on the board in certain red zone situations, he would rather hold back and take the heat off of his weak minded QB and avoid controversy. So, if that's really the case and he wants to leave points on the field then he has no business coaching. It doesn't have to be a Tebow thing either. This can apply to a receiver, RB, or whomever.
I know Tim genuinely wants to do whatever they ask but this is ridiculous. He's a QB first and foremost. I thought him going to NY was a good idea but it isn't. I hope he leaves either by way of trade or even getting cut. I don't even care anymore.
It would have been if we didn't have a SoCal pussy as the current QB who has to have his hand held, ass wiped and otherwise spoken to in whispers for fear he may have a breakdown if we don't.
Tebow has said he hasn't practiced RB this week, and Cimini has reported not seeing him in RB positional drills this week. So it's not going to happen except to be a decoy.
You said that Tebow adds no value to the team other than being a punt protector, which really only is a sidebar to his real value as the teams backup QB. With that, backup QBs don't usually add value when the starter is healthy. It's your rhetoric that raised the flag.
This is one of the most confusing player situations I have ever witnessed in my life. So much hype went into bringing Tebow to New York, and 7 weeks into our season we have absolutely no clue what position he is good for.
I think we are more likely to see him as a lineman before we see him play more than 2 plays a game at QB. Would love to see him throw the ball more though.
3 converted fake punts says otherwise. great special teams player so far. No matter what anyone's views are on the subject this is not even debatable
It's debatable whether somebody else could have made the passing fake but I think Greene or any of our other RBs could have made those other runs for three. Is he worth backup QB prices for a few three yard runs and a fake punt-pass a couple times a season?
