3rd and 1, tebow comes in shotgun 5 wide and plows ahead. this should be an automatic call in short yardage. ill take tebow vs 5 or 6 in the box to get 3 feet any day of the week... ESPECIALLY on a sunday.

letting him throw it. he is going to hit big plays if we give him more chances to throw it. granted, as a starter in a conventional offense he isnt a great passer, but gettign 5-10 snaps letting him air 1 or 2 out just makes the tebow package more effective and creates big play oppportunity.

I'm no Tebow fan but I will say that he was very effective in the role that he played yesterday. If they could do that with him every week he would be well worth the pick that he cost, IMO. Getting a few first downs, some surprise plays (i.e. his passing play) for decent yardage and forcing the other team to prepare for him (Colts said they spent 30% of their focus on stopping Tebow...which means they may be less prepared for our regular offense) and sometimes having to take a timeout when they see him out there. Plus he hasn't made any mistakes as the personal protector that I've noticed.

That being said I believe this is his only role on the team, meaning he should not replace Sanchez as the starter.

Thanks for the compliments of TT. The guy is a great asset to a team. I'm a huge Tebow fan. So I think differently than you on some things. But Sanchez played great, made good decisions and he deserves credit for yesterdays play.

They didn't really do anything different at all. The only difference is that the Tebow package worked. Just because something works doesn't mean they changed what they were doing or "finally played to his strengths".

I'm not saying it was Tebow's fault or anything that wasn't working, because he wasn't getting good blocking before. I'm just saying there was really no difference in Tebow package play calling in the Colts game vs. any other game this season.

The Tebow package overall didn't really factor much in the win anyway. The fake punt was very nice as it extended the drive but that's about the only real impact play we saw from the Tebow package. Lets not try to make it out like the Tebow package is fixed and greatly contributed to this blowout victory though (like the rest of the mainstream media)..

Don't forget picking up the 3rd and 1 in the redzone that eventually lead to a TD as opposed to having to kick the FG there.

Some good points. I would disagree a little. Some plays are just demoralizing to the other team. That fake punt was one of those type of plays. Sometimes a play like that mentally just puts a nail in the coffin. Edit: You are right that the Jets were gonna win that game against the Colts no matter what.

Eh - I'm not saying I'm not happy he picked that up, but the Jets were running at will all day vs. the Colts. He picked it up, but a Greene handoff would've gotten it as well, as evidenced by the numerous instances when he did during the game.

I think it was the first time he was the punt protector, he was backed up pretty good. I thought he would lose his block at first, but he didn't. Whew. Imagine the grief the Tim detractors would have given us 3/12ers if that punt had been blocked because of Tim.

im really not concerned what capacity tebow plays. be it 2 snaps a game, being the starting qb taking all the snaps, or somewhere in beteen...

my contention was always that he is too good and dynamic a player to not help us if used correctly. yestarday was the closest we have gotten to playing to his strengths. if he gets 1 first down, 1 big play, forces 1 timeout, and prevents teams from going after the punter each game that is a ton of value.

prior to yestarday the jets had gone to the shotgun 5 wide set on 3rd and short with tebow ZERO times. how you can say they "didnt do anything different" despite doing something they hadnt done all year is beyond me. it is clear, from his denver days, statistically, that short yardage from the shotgun spread he was nearly unstoppable. his conversion rate was off the chart. the fact that we hadnt used that for the first 5 games is mind boggling.

we instead went with a 2 tight end 1 runningback set several times. bunching everything up. tebow isnt fast, he is elusive. you are much better spreading it out then going big with him in there
it was night and day in both personell, playcalling, and down and distance.
the fake punt led to a extending a drive that A) prevent the colts from getting a last possesion and B) resulted in us getting 7 points. his 3rd down conversion on 3rd and 1 led to another touchdown. the colts also used a timeout on defense on a play where tebow came off the sideline.

overall not a huge impact. but the impact per play was through the roof. he was on the field what, 4 plays? he converted a 3rd and 1, they got 8 yards on the mcknight option play, he gained 40 yards on 4th down fake, and caused a timeout. thats pretty impactful for 5 plays

TT made some really great plays for us yesterday. I hope we stay the course and build on this using him how we did on special teams and a change of pace 2 or 3 snaps a game. This is what Rex and the staff has been saying how we will use him all along. I could see him easily displacing Jacksonville's Montell Owens or the Pats Matt Slater as a special teams Pro Bowler for the AFC for the next couple years.

Fact... The colts got crushed in every facet of the game.

Tim was successful, yes. So was everyone else. It was a good day to be a jet and a shitty day to be a colt. No more needs to be taken from it than that.

Edit: it was also apparently shitty to be a rb not named Greene.

I neither go for or against Tebow and came from the Broncos board to see how he was going to be used as he is such a polarizing figure. With that said just one fake punt or first down run extends a drive and prevents the opposing offense from gaining the football and keeps the T.O.P. on the Jets side and gives the defense more of a blow and time to study the last possession from the opposing offense. This from one play to give the offense a second life and chance to score.

That's big no matte what. I also have to say I enjoy watching the Jets and love Rex Ryan's screw you personality.

I don't think you have to worry about that. He is a very valuable backup and with time he will work have time to work on his game and gain a shot. A running and throwing QB can be a damn good combination. It will happen.

You also have to remember Fish, that he throws more low probability passes than must QB's. He hasn't learned to use a check because instead of dumping he off for 5 yards he believes he can run for that or more. The patience will run and Sparano can help him. I was happy that he was running a vanilla under center offense in the preseason and made some decent quick decision throws.

I sincerely hope that doesn't happen. Tebow's time with the NYJ might ensure that he never sees the field as a starting QB again.

We can send Tebow to the pro bowl as punt protector.

Great post, JerseyJay. And it's important to extend plays and give our D time to rest. Hey y'all - it doesn't mean you drank the Kool-Aid if you say that Tebow brings some positives to the game.
