NEW YORK (AP) Jets owner Woody Johnson says backup quarterback Tim Tebow will "be with us for three years," and also backs struggling starter Mark Sanchez. Johnson tells CNBC on Wednesday that despite some speculation that the Jets could try to trade Tebow after this season, his first in New York, the team will "absolutely" keep him for the duration of his contract. Johnson adds that he and coach Rex Ryan have not discussed making a quarterback change, saying that Sanchez "played great" in a 23-17 loss to Houston on Monday night. The Jets owner would not say the team would never make a switch because "never is a long, long time period," but adds that he sees "the same things in Mark Sanchez that I saw when I first met him." To be honest I don't know what to think both QB's arn't enough to win enough big games for the ship. This whole team can't/couldn't support either
When the jets gave 2 draft picks for tebow everybody should it know he was going to be with the team for a while, me im ok with it, when this kid learn how to throw hes going to be dangerous. Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe not. More and more articles are being written about Rex's ineptness. It is also true that the authors of these articles could care less about Tim. The following article is an example. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...in-qb-wont-last-long-without-big-improvements Mark Sanchez: Rex Ryan's Faith in QB Won't Last Long Without Big Improvements It's almost a joke at this point. How much—or rather, how little—does Mark Sanchez have to do before Rex Ryan starts exploring other options? The situation in New York seems to get more improbable by the week. Ryan refuses to acknowledge the idea that Sanchez could be replaced—seemingly out of stubbornness, at this point, because Sanchez's numbers certainly don't back him up—and yet Tim Tebow is just sitting there, doing nothing. Waiting. What's more, Jets' owner Woody Johnson told the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta this week that the team has no intention of trading Tebow and he'll be with the Jets "for three years," at least. To sit on the bench and watch Sanchez? To play a few snaps per game, when the Jets decide to run the Wildcat? Both of those ideas are laughable, given Tebow's potential. It really is difficult to understand what the Jets are thinking at this point. For some reason, Ryan and Johnson have the utmost faith that Sanchez is going to turn things around this season, even though his numbers suggest the exact opposite. Sanchez's 48.4 completion percentage is the worst in the NFL. His 66.6 passer rating is the third-worst in the league. In fact, it is only about two percent better than that of Brandon Weeden, fearless leader of the NFL's worst team. Johnson, however, tells us that the numbers don't matter. "I wouldn't look at the numbers too seriously," were his exact words, via Mehta. But that doesn't seem to make too much sense. It's not as though Sanchez's numbers are bad, but the team is playing well. The Jets are 2-3. They've beaten up on two of the worst teams in the NFL in Buffalo and Miami, and they haven't held a candle to any of the teams they've faced that qualify as top-tier teams. Some say there were encouraging signs against the Texans on Monday night because the Jets showed some fight in the second half. But since when is it a positive sign when a team almost doesn't lose? And yet again, Sanchez was bad. Yet again, he threw more interceptions than touchdown passes. Yet again, he failed to complete 50 percent or more of his passes. It's hard to avoid reading into those numbers, despite Johnson's advice. What those numbers tell us is that the Jets are in trouble because their quarterback isn't up to par. Of course, Sanchez could turn it around. Obviously, that's what Ryan and Johnson are waiting for. But why wait? It would be different if someone like Ryan Mallett or Caleb Hanie was waiting in the wings. If that were the case, it would be easy to see why the Jets would play it safe and stick with their starter who, at one point in his career, seemed mildly competent. But that is not the case. They have Tim Tebow waiting in the wings. Tim Tebow, who could start for any other NFL team. The Jets have a struggling starting quarterback and a backup quarterback who is capable of starting and leading a team back from the dead and towards a playoff berth. It's a fact. It's been proven. It just makes no sense to deprive him of a chance to prove himself. Earlier this week, Sanchez told ESPN.com's James Walker, "[Ryan] has faith in me. I believe that. I'm not worried about that. I'm really not." But at what point does he become worried? When his completion percentage falls to 40 percent? When the Jets lose to Indianapolis? When they head into the bye week at 3-5, or 2-6? It's not a good thing that Sanchez knows his coach is OK with the fact that he is one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL at the moment. It's not good that Sanchez believes that he's doing his best, when his best appears to be throwing as many touchdowns (six) as picks. At a certain point, at the very least, there needs to be some kind of sense of urgency in New York. Right now, there is nothing of the sort. Faith doesn't always translate into wins. It's time for the Jets to start recognizing that before it's too late and this season can't be salvaged.
It's unbelievably disheartening that our Owner gets involved in football decisions. And the reason Rex doesnt play Tebow is because he never wanted Tebow to begin with.
Tebow is inept as a QB. Rex had more success as a head coach here in his first 3 years than Bill Parcells did in his three years. Some clown writing a bleacher report article doesn't change that. It was probably a Teboi who ran out of lube anyway. That said - Tebow has been a huge success as a personal punt protector. I think Sparano will figure out the best way to use him on offense as he becomes more comfortable w/him throwing once and a while. Oh, and Woody Johnson is becoming a terrible owner. He thinks the Jets are in the "media business" and is meddling with the football decisions.
Well that stinks. They should cut Tim. This organization has no clue what they want or where they are headed. Cut him so he can go play elsewhere. And for those of you who say no other team wants him, he was contacted by jacksonville, st louis, green bay and new england. In fact, Josh McDaniels wanted to offer the Broncos picks for him but Bellichick said "no, let's wait until they cut him." Im completely over this Jets circus. The Jets have the worst starting QB in the NFL and refuse to bench him. Honestly, if you dont think Tebow is a better QB than Sanchez wtf is he doing on the team????!!! edit: and to put that in perspective, I would bench Sanchez for McElroy.
I am a Jet fan, A Sanchez Hopefull( losing any if all ) but lets be honest NEITHER are going to get us anywhere with this team its just a sad sediment
I just posted the article. NOT my article. Besides, why are you replying to me? Do you think something you say will change my opinions? (Rhetorical questions, no answer wanted).
I agree with you but let me give you the other side of the coin and play devil's advocate. Its possible that when Rex recruited Tebow away from Jacksonville he was being honest. I do think its possible that Rex wanted him originally but to do exactly what he wanted him to do which is back up Sanchez and run the Sporana cat. I think that the problem has been that Sporano does not know what to do with him. Direct snapping between the tackle runs is not exactly what he should be doing with Tebow over and over and over. do this and it could turn around. 1.Open up the play book 2. Sanchez keeps starting 3. Every now and then let Tebow pinch hit for an entire drive (especially in tight games in the 4th quarter). There is no reason why this can not have some success. Its why Tebow was acquired in the first place.
I hear there's been some rumblings in Jax about how bad the team is. Tebow jerseys have been showing up in the mail to the front office with torn up season tickets included. Maybe Khan will make another pass at him next season seeing as how his contract is almost free.
