Armchair analysis, daring assumptions and optimistic speculation about the Jets schedule going forward. This could be "irrational exuberance" considering we have scored 3 offensive TD's in the last 4 games, but here it goes:

    We’re 2-3.

We should win 2 of the next 3 with the Colts and Dolphins at home. We’re then 4-4. Week 9 is a bye.

Weeks 10 & 11 are the question marks because they’re away games.

Week 10: Seahawks away - ?? Don’t know. Right now I wouldn’t want to play them, but in a month who knows. The Green Bay win was a fluke, and Dallas is over-rated as usual. It’s an away game. Is it winnable?

Week 11: Rams away - ?? The Rams have beat some average teams and lost to a good one. Are they an average team off to a good start? I think so. It’s away, but winnable.

Week 12: Patriots at home. Jets lose.

Week 13: Cardinals at home – Hmm. Very impressive the 1st 3 weeks. Hum drum the last 2 weeks. 21 points is the most they’ve given up. We play at Met Life. Hmm. Any chance?

Week 14: Jaguars away – Jets should win

Week 15: Titans away – their 2-4, but have played a tough schedule. The Titans are better than their record indicates. I’m doubtful.

Week 16: Chargers at home: Tough game, but definitely winnable

Week 17: Bills away – will be tougher than week 1, but winnable.

I really can’t get us better than 8-8, even winning 4 of our last 5. Any chance of 9-7?
What will it take to get a wildcard?

Will the return of Keller and Hill be game changers?

Those NFC West games are no longer the gimmes as previously thought from the beginning of the season.

John Clayton was on the radio last night saying they are something like 11-3 out of division, very best in the NFL, and undefeated at home.

I could see the Jets losing @seattle and @st. louis.

I also could see the Jets losing home vs. Miami and being 3-5 at the bye.

Do you think the Jets can take the Colts this weekend? I just don't see it happening without having any offensive attack. Maybe it might be possible if Sanchez gets benched, then at least you won't just hand the ball over to teh Colts on turn overs or 3 and outs so often.

I feel the Jets are better suited to play teams in the NFC West than say the Patriots. QBs like Wilson, Kolb, Bradford we can build a defensive gameplan around. Its much easier than say last year going against Romo, Eli, and Vick.

Those NFC West teams are more defensive.

Colts have the 25th rushing defense in football - over 5YPC. Colts 2nd road game of the season...not the friendly confines of the oil drum. Jets win.

The Rams and Cards are both overrated and will both finish under .500.

This would make me give the Jets a shot at winning IF Tebow was your QB and RB all day, but sadly, the stubborn powers that be want to stick with Sanchez and Shonn Green.

Therefore, you will make the Colts Defense look more like the 85 Bears

Defensively the Jets match up better sure, but its going to be very hard to score on any of them. 49ers, Cards, Seattle, and even the Rams to a degree now are all ground-and-pound, only much much better than the Jets do it.

I expect low scoring slugfests and I wouldn't be suprised if the Jets lose all of those games, but they probably win the Cards game at home.

I think we can beat the Colts. Then as long as we win one of the Pats/Fins game (obviously more likely the Phins game) then we go into the bye at 4-4. There are still some tough games in our last 8 games but I don't think it's a stretch at all to think that we could win 5 of those and finish the season 9-7. Which still puts us in the hunt for a wildcard spot. I think that winning against the Colts would technically put us in the playoff spot regardless of what else happens but I could be wrong on that (division records of other teams with a win and whatnot).

Seeing as it's the Jets here it is entirely possible that they lose 5 of the games as well and finish 7-9 or worse. Personally my bet is 8-8 at the worst and 10-6 at the absolute best but probably 9-7.

My first pass through the schedule led me to believe 10-6 was possible, but not plausible. (Big words there!) But I'm not even sure 10-6 is possible the more I look at it.

I still think it's possible but I agree it's not plausible, which is why I put it as the absolute best I think we can do. 11 wins just will not happen, is it possible? Yes, but only stastically, not realistically.

The big issue for us is going to be the rest of our divisional games. If we can split the series with the Pats that will be a huge step. If we can't split that series then we basically have to sweep the Bills and Phins or we're in a pretty big hole. If we can sweep the Bills and Phins and split the Pats series then we'll be in very, very good shape IMO. That's not impossible or even unlikely, we get the Phins at home coming up and unless the Bills pick up the pace they could already be well out of the race and deflated going into that last game.

But we'll have to take it one game at a time. Right now that game is the Colts which I think we can win, if not then we're definitely in big, big trouble. I won't go as far as some and call it a "must win" because it isn't, but it'll have a big impact.

Armchair analysis, daring assumptions and optimistic speculation about the Jets schedule going forward. This could be "irrational exuberance" considering we have scored 3 offensive TD's in the last 4 games, but here it goes:

    We’re 2-3.

With Mark Sanchez as the starting Quarterback.

We should win none of the next 3, even with the Colts and Dolphins at home. We’re then 2-6. Week 9 is a bye.

Weeks 10 and 11 are the question marks because they’re away games.

Week 10: Seahawks away - JETS Lose.

Week 11: Rams away - JETS Lose.

Week 12: Patriots at home. JETS Lose.

Week 13: Cardinals at home – JETS Lose.

Week 14: Jaguars away – Jets could win, if the defense and the special teams players score touchdowns.

Week 15: Titans away – JETS Lose.

Week 16: Chargers at home: JETS Lose.

Week 17: Bills away – JETS Lose.

I really can’t get us better than 2-14. Any chance of 9-7? No, none, nada, zip, zero, zilch.

What will it take to get a wildcard? Tim Tebow being the JETS starting Quarterback.

Will the return of Keller and Hill be game changers? No.

    --- Game Changer ---

So Mark Sanchez isn't going to win a game the whole rest of the year, but Tebow would beat everyone except New England?? HAHAHA

There's a whole sub forum for you nut jobs. Run along now, this is where Jets fans discuss the team.

Only team I really see us losing to is the Pats, Seahawks, and maybe Chargers.. If we split with them, we'll be in great shape.

That's a 10-6 to 11-5 record. Good enough for a playoff spot and maybe a division win if the stars align.

But, we have to beat the Colts. Have to, have to, have to.

I see this game as being eminently winnable for the Jets. Here's why

    1. There has to be a let down for the Colts after such an emotional win by such a young team

    2. They are as a bad run defense to begin with and they won't have Mathis, and Freeney is questionable. They are their 2 best front 7 players, again, on a bad front 7. So if the Jets can't run against THESE guys, who are you going to run against.

    3. The Jets run defense isn't much better but the Colts lost their best RB for this game, so you should have a better day controlling their run game.

    4. You have ANOTHER home game (thats 4 of your first 6, while the Pats have had only 2 of 6 games at home). Home field is usually a bigger advantage vs younger teams and you can't get younger than the Colts.

Bottom line, considering injuries, match ups, and home field advantage the Colts are perfectly set up for a loss this Sunday by any metric.

Here's the problem. IF, for some reason the Jets lose this game, I think it will have bigger ramifications than just a random loss. More than just igniting a firestorm fan and media outrage, I think it could very well be the straw that breaks Rex's fragile hold on this team and the locker room.

A loss on Sunday and the likely beat down the next week in Foxboro would have to make those in the locker room question all the crap they've been told by their coaches. THEN you'd have a tough game against the improving Dolphins before the Bye, and even if you managed a 3-5 record, you'd have to face that the Jets have to play 5 of your last 8 games on the road.

Lose this game on Sunday and I think 8-8 would be a heroic result. Win it and Rex keeps his locker room Going 4-4 into the bye becomes a distinct possibility, and THAT makes anything possible in the 2nd half.

I'd say that make this a big game for the Jets. Fortunately its teed up nicely for them.

the only way we go to the playoffs is if we spilt the series with the Patriots,Rex's first two seasons we spilt the series. If we can't win one of the two games we are done,if we would have spilt last season we would have gotten in,when the smoke clears this team will be 10-6

Obviously you didn't actually watch the Broncos much last year except for the 4th quarter highlights. The Jets offense gets worse when Tebow takes over not better. That's why Rex and Sparano are doing everything in their power not to let Tebow get a TD or two that would force them to make the change eventually.

As a Jets fan I will be rooting hard for Tebow when he hits the field but beforehand I regard the prospect with a sense of dread that I haven't had since it become clear that neither Brooks Bollinger nor 42 year old Vinny were clearly better than the other.

I think it's going to be a mess and I think the Jets will be changed by the removal of Sanchez in a way that we haven't seen since the mid-90's.

I could handle a re-building as long as Bradway and Tannenbaum weren't the ones running it. The Jets roster right now is just studded with a bunch of high picks that are mediocre or worse. You rebuild by getting talent. These guys just aren't good at picking it.

I liked your entire post, but you make a crucial point, i.e. the Colts game is a MUST WIN. Otherwise, the dam will break. Even some former Tebow haters in the media (e.g. Silver, Stephen A.) are calling for Tebow. It's getting bizarre.

As you said, this game is setting up well for the Jets and we should be able to get it done.

we will probably lose to all the NFC West teams. all their defenses are great. We will lose to NE twice. probably lose to Tennessee and SD as well.

The upside of Tebow as the starting QB is that we're going to watch all the delusional Tebow fans either meltdown or melt away. Either of those is fine by me.

The downside of Tebow as the starting QB is that then the Jets will win maybe 2 games the rest of the season. Obviously if we are 2-6 when the change is made it's no real difference either way.
