You guys are ridiculous. Greene averaged 4.1 a carry last year. If he could do it then, why can't he do it this year? Obviously run blocking is an issue. It's easier to blame Greene though, so yeah.
He looks markedly slower than last year. He has zero burst. Hey, this happens to some backs. He toted the rock an awful lot in college. Guys wear down. That's what makes guys like Curtis Martin so special. Not many guys north of 30 can run for 1600yds!!
Funny use of stats here. When you want to talk about Greene last year, you wheel out that stat, but if you want to defend Sanchez, stats are not so much what you want to talk about, like how long he has gone with his completion percentage below 50%. Last year Greene looked low on energy, often taking a long time to get up after being tackled. It concerned me. And he did not have hardly any long gainers, was not much for catching it out of the backfield, and looked nothing like a back who could carry the team's rushing needs. The OL btw is just the same as last year's, so ... Oh wait!, Hunter is gone and replaced by Howard. Isn't that considered an upgrade around here? So how come the difference with this year is on the OL? Having said that, i have some concerns while the personnel is largely the same, Sparano's run blocking schemes may be a bit of a problem. Greene did not look like a back who could carry a ground and pound attack going into this year. It is no surprise he has not done so.
Turk, you are 100% correct. Installing a new offense does not change the fact that he does not make people miss, has no 2nd gear and does not have good hands out of the backfield. Other then that..... oh wait, he sucks on short yardage even though he's suppose to be a powerful back
It's good to have a bruiser on the roster. It's not good if he's your only legitimate back. That said, I think Powell can make the plays we need from a starter, but he's no Arian Foster.
Greene showed flashes when Thomas Jones was the number 1 back, ever since he got more carries he has turned into Greene for 2
Greene only has one missed tackle because he likes to run right into defenders (sometimes his own teammates, too). It's fine that he wants to beat up defenders but there needs to be somebody else to gain the ground if he is only going to pound.
A- That stat is hot garbage, bcuz I seen Greene break more than 1 tackle. Ppl believe whatever suits their point. Greene has not looked good, run blocking looks like a hs team practice. I agree with you Barcs bcuz we have seen Greene produce while injured so obviously there is more than Greene sucks. Ppl are hyprocrites on this damn board, bcuz Greene averaged over 4 ypc last yeast and didn't fumble much and they were crying for more lmao. Now they have defenses preparing for Greene not Powell, so Powell looks better bcuz the def doesn't have much video on him. Greene is our better ball carrier. There is more to football than bs opinion stats like broken tackles, and he looks slow. When Greene was running for 4 ypc, ppl complained now what? Our fans are spoiled and always ask for more but with unrealistic expectations. Unrealistic expectations for example: 1: Keller should be traded, we have cumberland. This looks promising, not. 2: Tebow will improve the offense, and he is a winner. When has Tebow ever led a nfl offense that is efficient? Never, the worst 3rd down numbers, and completion %. Also last time I checked our current qb is known for W's also and 4th qtr comebacks. Just bcuz your seeing someone struggle in poor offense doesn't mean the back up is the answer. Bcuz the grass is not always GREENEr on the other side of the fence. 3: Speaking of Greene, just bcuz your back up looks fast doesn't mean he is better. Powell advantage is defenses don't have to prepare for him until now MAYBE. GREENE is still our best back. Honorable mentions: Pace sucks, Cromartie sucks. Patience young grass hoppers. Our qb and running back are correct starters and will prove it starting this week.
Greene has been bad but so has the OL. We haven't even tried to run off-tackle with pitches or sweeps, which boggles my mind since we're getting nothing up the middle. I loved Greene in 09 and 10 and even 11, but it's time to give Powell more carries, and go OFF TACKLE!
This has amused me several years, that none of the football strengths Rex is renowned for actually exists, except his personality.
To be honest I think Foster is just as much a product of Kubiak's brilliant [insert anybody with two legs for at least 1,000 yards] zone blocking scheme as he is talented. Powell would look like a STUD in Houston.
Yeah, that's the description of the last TWO seasons in a nutshell. Last year it was going to be Air Sanchez with no RT to speak of and a very slow split end playing at the same depth Holmes and Kerley wanted to be at. This year it's Ground and Pound with no runningback to carry the load and an offensive line incapable of getting any push. This is indicative of a defensive head coach who does not understand his offensive personnel and a completely clueless GM.
in 50 touches he also doesn't have a run bigger then 14 yards which is tied with Cedric Benson of the Packers, I remember some Jet fans wanted to get Benson in the offseason, they are the two worst RB's in the NFL right now,I don't buy into Greenes stats last season, this is Greenes 4th year and he isn't getting any better how long does it take to give up on someone with this team????Sanchez and Greene are why are offense is pathetic and they still start every game
