Listening to this guy speak made me mad at these fans. Just a horrible way to show your displeasure with a QB. “We are athletes. We are not gladiators. This isn’t the Roman Coliseum. People pay their hard-earned money to come in here. I believe they can boo, they can cheer, they can do whatever they want … we’re lucky to play this game. It’s hard economic times, and they still pay the money to go to these. “There are long-lasting ramifications to the game we play … I’ve come to the understanding I won’t live as long because I play this game. That’s OK. But when you cheer somebody getting knocked out, I don’t care who it is, and just so happened to be Matt Cassel, it’s 100 percent sickening. I’ve been in some rough times on some rough teams, I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life to play football, than at that moment right there. “I get emotional about it because these guys work their butts off. Matt Cassel hasn’t done anything to you people … hasn’t done anything to the media writers who kill him, hasn’t done anything wrong to the people who come out here and cheer him. If he’s not the best quarterback, he’s not the best quarterback, and that’s OK. But he’s a person. And he got knocked out in a game, and we got 70,000 people cheering. Boo him all you want. Boo me all you want. Throw me under the bus. Tell me I’m doing a bad job, say I’ve got to protect him more … but if you’re one of those people who were out there cheering, or even smiled, when he got knocked out, I just want everyone to know it’s sickening and disgusting. “Don’t blame a guy and don’t cheer for a guy (when injured) who has done everything in his power to play as good as he can for the fans. It’s sickening. I want every fan to know it. We have a lot of problems as a society if people think that’s okay.”
Good to know its not only Jet fans who do this. I remember Chad went down in 07 and there were cheers. That's pretty gutless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IvwoiKuzpBM#! Chief fans are going airborne with their disgruntlement towards Cassel. Looks like it's QUINN TIME!!!!
He's completely right. I hate when fans are so brainless in situations like this. Even if you are drunk, it is no excuse.
You have to feel bad for Cassell, he never was starting QB material yet was elevated because of who he was playing for and the system he was playing in. KC is another team that fell for tentacles that reach from Bellichick and Brady. The Pats are not the 49ers under Walsh and the lack of success by anybody player or coach that has left New England is unreal. Can we name one person who has had success? Deion Branch was so awful in Seattle he had to come crawling back as was McDaniels in Denver. Mangina burned his bridge but he got on board with the Bellichick Blowjob Machine in Bristol.
People at the game claimed it was mostly silent until Clemens started walking onto the field, or a mix of both since subsets of fans are indeed classless.
Beyond the fact that it is a no class asshole move.... They do know that the backup is Brady Quinn right?
I hated when they cheered Chad getting hurt, someone who was such a solid figure in our unstable franchize.
You know for a fact that Jets fans would do the same thing if Sanchez went down. Hell, they already booed him every time he took the field. This just shows that a large majority of fans are stupid. You never want your starting QB to go down with injury. Shame on anybody who supports this type of thinking.
If the fans really did cheer him being hurt (which is unclear) then that is certainly classless. Having said that, I don't feel too badly for Cassell - he's just another example of the Peter Principle, and is getting paid $28 million guaranteed for having risen to his level of incompetence. Nice work if you can get it.
"Dear Matt, we are so sorry for booing you and wanting Brady freaking Quinn. We promise we will never do it ever ever ever again!!!!!" -- KC Fans
