The Jets offense has been anemic since the first 5 quarters of the year. They haven't passed worth a damn and the run game has been stagnant. On the defensive side of the ball they haven't been able to stop the run all season. So how do the Texans look coming in this week? They're #2 in the NFL against the pass. They allowed only a 52.9 completion percentage so far this year. They've allowed 6 YPA and a 68.2 opposing Passing Rating. Peyton Manning went 26-52 against them for 6.35 yards a pass. In other words the Jets will not be able to pass against them in all likelihood. The prospects of running against them are a little bit better. They're ranked #5 in yards per game at this point but they're allowing 4.3 yards a carry. This despite the fact that with that passing defense teams have a lot of incentive to run against them early. The problem is you get down a couple of scores against them, as all 4 opponents have, and you have to put the running game away for the day. How do the Texans look on offense? You're not really going to believe this, but they're supporting that defense by Grounding and Pounding. The Texans are 10th in the NFL in rush attempts at this point with 148. They're only averaging 3.7 yards an attempt but that has not stopped them from running the ball as their preferred method of attack once they get a lead. The passing offense has been extremely efficient with a 66.9 completion pct, 7.7 YPA and a 105.3 rating. However the Texans have passed the ball almost a league low 124 times. Only the Bucs have thrown fewer passes than the Texans at this point. So what this is going to turn into is a balanced Texans offense trying to get up early and then pound the ball at the Jets weak run defense for the rest of the game. It's ironic that the two really good teams that the Jets faced last week and this appear to be following the Jets plan of G&P to supplement a dominating defense and are profiting in a big way from that plan.
Gary Kubiak is a genius in terms of creating a running attack. He could turn me into a 1,000 yard rusher. Scrubs/low draft picks he's made effective: Olandis Gary Quentin Griffin Mike Anderson Tatum Bell Terrell Davis Steve Slaton Now: Foster and Tate He might be the best offensive mind in the league. It's truly impressive. If only...
The Patriots D isn't nearly as good as the Texans D right now and their Oline is pretty banged up right now. Of course if Brady and co can do anything like the hurry-up offense that they've put together the last 6 quarters or so it could be something to see.
Sad but probably true. Faux John Madden @FauxJohnMadden BREAKING SCORE UPDATE: The Texans defeat the Jets to go to 5-0 on the season.
Interesting footnote here. On the Pigskin Pick'em the group is 82.5% for the Texans -7.5. Given the matchup I have to assume the other 17.5% are just diehard fans who will not pick against the Jets. I left that train week 2 after the Steelers loss. I don't care if the Jets are getting a bunch of points if the opponent looks like the Jets should be getting more.
i thought Rexy has a winning record against the texans? not predicting a win but i think we show up tonight and at the very least give them a run for their money!
