Who do you guys blame the most for the Jets playoff loss against the Steeler.

Herm Edwards- For playing it to safe that game
Doug Brien- For missing those two field goals
Chad Pennington- For the Offense not scoring any points in the game

I'M NOT BLAMING PENNINGTON ITS REALLY BETWEEN HERM AND BRIEN I WAS JUST PUTTING HIS NAME IN THERE FOR ARGUMENTS SAKE

considering he literally had the game in his hands twice...doug brien
herm is a bad coach at adjusting, but we had that game won and the kicker blew it...twice
and you cant blame a guy playing with a torn rotator cuff
    all on brien....he missed twice

dude pennington had one deep pass to moss similar too the one he had thrown in san diego in the endzone but Moss couldn't hold on to it

yeah i'm not blaming Pennington i was just putting his name in there just for arguments sake. But i blame it on Herm for kneeing the ball and attempting a 48 yard field goal with Brien instead of running the ball on third down and maybe picking up more yards and then kicking the field goal.

For me it's Herm & Hackett....

Instead of running the ball to waste a little time, they called a QB Knee, and lost 2 yards. Then guess what.... the FG is less then a yard short... wow

Pennington is out. Dude threw a screen to Curtis for a first down down to the 28 in crunchtime, so it's between Herm and Brien. Hackett would be in the mix too, but Herm can veto any play. You can delegate authority, but not responsibility. So between Herm and Brien, Brien would get the edge. At least Herm had the team ready and with a chance to win in a tough environment. However, throw Bradway in there for having a kicker that couldn't reach from 47 yards. He admitted as much by reaching for Nugent in the following draft. Just for posterity and to make Champ happy, add Woody to the party.

Yeah the FGs were a killer, but it was deeper than that. That was awful. Had Curtis gotten a couple extra yards it could have made all the diffrence...

    If only...

well given that we were on the road against the afc's "best team" with an injured pennington at qb...playing against a great steelers D
you have to give some credit to the coaching for even having us in that game...some credit is to cowher/berger for attempting to blow it

The coaching is what kept us in the game? We had an INT return for a TD and a punt return. That has nothing to do with coaching and if it did it would be because of Westhoff and Donnie H. Yes it is the kickers job to make those kicks but it's the coaches job to put the team in the best position for his team to win th game and he failed miserbaly with that pathetic display of playing not to lose and guess what ...... we lost.

I don't really see why Chad is listed here. It's clearly Herm and "the kneel down"

It's amazing, our K misses not one but TWO makeable kicks to win the game and everyone blames the HC. Let's not forget we got nothing out of our O so to even have a chance against a 15-1 team on the road was an excellent job of coaching. The bottom line is the K was given 2 opportunities to win it and faild each time.

2 years removed from that cold evening and the emotions still run as hot as ever. I think the blame could be spread over more than the choices offered but I went with Herm on this one. Not out of kneejerk disgust with Herm's overall coaching style but instead, becoming timid when courage was called for.

I'm trying to remember just how much time was left on the clock after the Martin screen. We had two TO's left yet no attempt was made either before the Martin screen or afterwards to get closer to the goalline. There's my reason for blaming Herm..

He played not to lose the game, And he lost the game..

it is NEVER CHAD's fault! he was out posing for his Hall of Fame bust! Isn't it a QBs job to score OAKLAND 2002, he has sucked at doing it! Yet his fans want to compare him to JOE MONTANA! right on!

Herm definitely could have helped by getting the ball closer... but guys, there is no guarantee Brien makes it from 37. More likely, sure, but not guaranteed.

Herm is at fault here.. especially that last play fiasco of downing it, but and NFL Kicker is paid to make those kicks. The idiot was 4 yds closer than he was 2 minutes prior when he hit the crossbar and thought he had to hit it harder than that time?

alllllllllllllllllllll Herm... the pressure plus the amount of kickers who actually made those Feildgoals were slim to none. I think we are being a bit hard on Brien. The knee... the clock management.... ahhh why did you have to start this thread? We would have gotten destroyed by the Pats nonetheless so who cares.

Slim to none? He had msised a 47 yarder moments earlier by inches, it's safe to assume he could kick a 43 yarder but he shanked it. This was about the kicker, again it was amazing we were even in the game w/ the lack of production from the O.

At least get it right. RAJ posted that Woody has difficulty with the IRS & may wind up in the slammer for tax invasion. So I said well if Woody is in jail our new owner would be Woody's 1 year bastard son. Do you see anything incorrect in that post? .
