2 year deal, via Schefter. CB out of Pitt. Formerly from the Lions, UDFA in 2010. 5'11'' 180lbs Age 24 Played in 11 games last season, recorded 31 tackles and 11 passes defensed. One career INT was in 2010. Also has a bit of a record. via Wikipedia: "He was cut by the Lions after two arrests in one month during 2012 on July 23. Though Berry is not with any team as of August 20, 2012, he was still suspended for 3 games. If any team were to sign him, he would not be available until Week 4." But hey, I guess that means he was cut for behavior rather than lack of talent, maybe not such a bad thing
Fuck it. I'd rather have a guy with off-field issues that can be calmed down, then these constant talent-less nobody's Although, we keep signing defensive players LOL We need playmakers on Offense
He clearly states that he will be suspended until Week 4. If I'm not mistaken, next week will be week 5
That was if he was signed by the start of the season. Notice the date is 20 Aug. He still has to serve his suspension which takes effect once he is signed.
Wrong. "Berry’s two off-field incidents got him suspended three games by the league, but players are allowed to serve suspensions while they’re out of the league, so Berry’s suspension ended with the conclusion of Week Three. He is now eligible to play if anyone wants him, and the Jets may want him."
My mistake. I thought the personnel conduct policy didn't allow them to serve suspensions while unsigned. Thank you.
I would rather see Berry on the field vs the Texans then Wilson. Good signing IMO, just kinda of sad things had to come down to this.
Awesome. A guy who couldn't cover on the Lions and got arrested better than he played football is now going to be someone for Kyle Wilson and Ellis Lankster to look up to. Also, does he by chance moonlight as a RB or WR?
Suspended for 4 games -- suspending a guy 4 games while he isn't in the league doesn't really sound like a suspension..
Good, we need more thugs...seriously..if for no other reason than to beat the shit out of the pussies playing on this team.
He absolutely was cut for behavior issues. If he can stay out of trouble then this could be a good signing.
good point....i think his signing is at least a sign they know they were lucky not to get beat for a lot more yards. They still need to fix tackling and get keller back on the field. If nothing else he demands attention and can move the chains.
Refer to my above comment. A player can serve his suspension while not being on an NFL team. "Berry’s two off-field incidents got him suspended three games by the league, but players are allowed to serve suspensions while they’re out of the league, so Berry’s suspension ended with the conclusion of Week Three. He is now eligible to play if anyone wants him, and the Jets may want him."
