you didn't put options that reflect how jet fans feel. if you put:" i root for the jets so i hope he does well but hate all the attention he brought" there would be a landslide decision
Long season. All teams have peaks, valleys...Tebow will make significant contributions as a QB before the season ends. I know this...with the dearth of skill at WR & RB on this team, I'd put Teebs in the gun, spread 'em out and use SANCHEZ as the change of pace QB.
Very good post , and I agree 1000% with it and I am as pro Tebow as they get and do believe he can succeed (again because he already did) as NFL QB one day. so there can be common ground between the groups that think he can be QB and those that do not.
I picked he's not an NFL QB but I'm pro Tebow...which, really, is a little misleading. I was against the trade and I think he's been fairly useless thus far but he is Jet player and I can't be anti-Jet player...so I'm pro-Tebow in that sense.
I could also have put, "My sister dates a guy whose cousin went to UF and me and him became drinking buddies, therefore I support Tebow because I'm cool with him." Poll is simple and straightforward. Just pick a side and be done with it.
You missed the main side though. He is a Jet, Jets fan are going to root for him since he is a Jet, he brought a lot of unnecessary attention on him the Jets in addition to the attention the Jets already got. 6 of your options have to do with him as a QB, not on has to do with him as being a New York Jet. His team has quite a pull whether you are pro/anti/neutral.
But that's not the question. There's no need to ask about whether you like the attention Tebow brought -- as someone pointed out, it would be a landslide. No one really thinks the attention (level and type) is right. Usually, polls aren't constructed to find out the answers to questions that would be a landslide. They are constructed to find out answers for which there is presumably some spread of opinion. This one has two very clear variables at play in each answer -- whether you think Tebow is an NFL QB, and whether you "like" or "support" him. There is plenty there for a Jets fan who roots for every Jet to answer that way. Among Tebow's many superpowers is also the ability to make people engage in mental backflips just to answer a simple poll.
Well we are going on Backup asking why there are so many views but so little votes. One of those reasons might be because the most popular vote answer isn't there? No mental backflips, common sense. I don't know if he will be a NFL QB. I am not a Tebow fan either, but I root for him because he is a New York Jet. The question was pro or anti, well many people are pro because he is a Jet, many people are pro because of Tebow, etc. Leaving out the main reason people might be pro Tebow would result it lots of views and not many votes. Again, the answer of mine and someone elses and fewo thers isn't on the poll which is why there are more views than votes
Oh. I thought there was plenty of votes. This is just in the Tebowmania forum. It's not for regular Jets fans. They don't want the regular Jets fans to have to see anything about Tebow. I think there's enough choices up there that anybody could vote. It's just an opinion poll, and every should fall under at least one choice up there, if not multiple ones. If you're "rooting for him because he's a Jet," that narrows it down to the first three choices, easy peasy. You're rooting for him but don't think he's an NFL Qb, or you do, or you don't think so now, but he will some day. Not hard.
But I am not pro-Tebow, I am pro-Jets. I am pro-Larry Fitzgerald, but I am not pro-Cardinals. You see what I mean? Most people who root for the Jets are not going to assign themselves pro-Tebow. I don't think I'm pro anyone on the Jets except for the fact they are Jets. I'm not gonna root for them to do well if they leave the Jets, I have no reason to.
That's the mental backflip. He's a Jet. You want him to do well. It's that simple. Believe it or not (hold onto your hat), there are Jets fans who want him to do poorly. He's that polarizing. He makes people stop and think about their opinion on him, like no other player -- even made you feel dirty if you had said you were "pro" Tebow. Like there's something wrong with that. Overthinking it -- if you're not wishing him ill, hoping he fails, wanting him to be ineffective so the Jets will move on -- then you fall in one of the first three. You can't wordsmith a poll with a fine toothed comb.
Exactly, I'm a Jets fan first. That doesn't mean I'm pro Tebow. It means I'm rooting for Tebow because a Jet and if he leaves the Jets, I'll root for/against him depending on how it affect the Jets chances on making the playoffs. If I'm pro Tebow because I root for the Jets, then I'm pro Cromartie, pro Gate, pro Mangold, pro Greene, pro Powell, pro Keller pro 53 man roster + practice squad. Most fans don't associate themselves with players, so if you ask someone if they are pro player x it means do you root for the player. Many people root for the player because of the team he is on, and that option isn't presented. There is no I root for Tebow because he is a Jet which is what many fans choose, therefore more views than votes. The basic option isn't there. Maybe as you said to force people to choose something else, but the poll isn't mandatory so people look then don't vote.
No, not exactly. You're engaging in mental gymnastics. No reasonable reading of that briefly worded poll means that you'd be "pro Tebow" to the exclusion of being a Jets fan or more than being a Jets fan. It's as if you think that any true Jets fan would support Tebow, wish him well, be "pro" him -- but that is not the case. Everybody is not like you, as much as that would be a good thing. You've still got a mental block -- it's not the poll. It's you.
So what you're saying is many, many people would have put that -- so why include it? It's clearly too broad a category and allows someone an "out." The question asks in simple terms whether you're pro or against. It's like a Rorschach test -- if the name had said Sanchez, you wouldn't even think twice about whether you felt "pro" about a quarterback that has led this team to two AFC championship games. The wording is not a trip up.
If this was Sanchez I wouldn't answer either. He is a lighting rod on this board. I'm not "pro Sanchez", I'm not "anti-Sanchez". I root for Sanchez because he is a Jet and the last 3 weeks he has progressively gotten more frustrating to watch. I want him to succeed because he is a Jet and if he left Jets oh well, I wouldn't be devastated, I wouldn't be ecstatic. I see myself as pro Jets, so pro a player means I would root for them above the Jets. That's what this poll comes off as. Again you asked why so many people would have viewed it and not voted. I said why. That's it. Obviously a lot of people aren't voting, and I was trying to explain why. The basic option isn't there and the poll isn't mandatory, so people don't see the basic option and leave the poll.
I did not ask that -- remember, I'm the one that thinks there are plenty of votes. As to why someone wouldn't vote but they really would otherwise want to? The choices basically require you to specify whether you're "pro" Tebow or not, and many people don't want to admit to themselves that they don't like him, and wish for him to fail. Or, they're "pro" but can't decide what they think of whether he's an NFL QB (present or future). Putting "I'm a Jets fan, and therefore wish for all Jets to do well, without any particular feelings towards any individual players" would have been a stupid and boring choice. It would have skewed the poll with too many answers. The first three are fine choices for those people. They just don't want to take a position.
We obviously disagree. Here is the first post I made in the thread, "Where is Tim Tebow is a New York Jet, I am a New York Jets fan, so I root for Tebow to succeed in the role given and I don't think that role (outside of PP) is maximizing what he can do but I don't think he gives us the best shot at winning as a full time starting QB option and I really didn't have an opinion of him before he came and became a New York Jet?" Where would that put me? Because I think Sanchez gives us a better shot doesn't mean Tebow isn't or can't be a NFL QB. I don't see a place for me to vote
I already said, that's the first choice. "Tebow is not an NFL QB, but I am pro-Tebow." Polls utilize shortened wording. That one is a very close second on votes, so it's a popular choice.
