They don't have an opening until they DL Revis which they are apparently stalling on doing. They signed a RB instead.

    Exactly...

And I don;t mean to rant here but, I was wondering, did I miss in Rex's press conference where he said, "Oh btw, moving McKnight to CB means we aren't going to sign Chris Carr..."? I watched the whole thing live, and I didn't hear him say that.

This doesn't preclude them from signing Carr. On the contrary, since they will have a roster spot for Revis when they move him to IR, they can make this move, get Grimes on the active list for the game, AND sign Carr, which, if he works out well TOMORROW, they probably will.

This move with McKnight has been coming for 3 years. Had it not been for USC needing to replace Reggie Bush, he probably would have played CB in college after they figured out he is an exceptional athlete but not a great running back, who runs tentatively, too high, and indecisively, and has done ZERO to distinguish himself in the NFL as a RB.

They also just signed Grimes off Houston Practice squad, which, why it's getting guffawed I have no idea, since this guy was extremely high on a lot of radars and probably is better than McKnight AND Powell.

How come Bellichick is a genius and gets all the credit for moving Troy Brown to DB when his secondary was in shambles, or last year, moving Julian Edelman (who was going to be cut) to CB, but the Jets do it with a guy who HAS BEEN AN EMERGENCY CB for the team for 3 years, and they are asinine?

It's not like Ryan said, ".. and he's going to start this week over Kyle Wilson". They are going to work him there full time, and use him maybe 4-6 plays a game, which, if he gets a pass break up, would be more useful than him losing 5 yards on a dumbass WC play.

I am usually all over this team for moves like this... Cromartie playing WR instead of GETTING a veteran, which was a complete joke, and then there is my least favorite move of the last 20 years for one of my teams, (and I'm a Mets fan) forcing Tebow into the offense, a completely disgraceful, money/headline grab move by this FO, which will eventually cost Tannenbaum his job when it doesn't not work out (and it won't, if they continue to force it). But, THIS move is NOT that big of a deal, and it's not out of left field, and it's not them acting arrogantly OR panicking (for a change). They have a need. Would they have moved him there if Revis hadn't gotten hurt? Who knows. He has been working out at CB part time since beginning of season. Rex is on record as wanting to move him there 3 years ago. Damian Woody, a guy who SAW him in practice working as a CB said recently if they aren't going to use him at RB, they should move him to CB. This is not some crazy, half assed idea, and it's week 4. Not week 10.

Everyone needs to relax with this f*cking team. Get off the ledge for 10 minutes.

Carr knows this defense and would be much better in that backup role this season than McNugget. I think Carr would be at least our 3rd or 4th best CB to walk on the field after Cromartie and Wilson and he is still only 29.

He has forgotten more of our defense than McNugget has even learned.

Let's make a few assumptions - (i) the Jets coaching staff believes McKnight has the skills to be a very good CB and (ii) Chris Carr is not a very good CB (maybe he's an OK CB, but the fact that he's not playing for anyone suggests he may not be). The only way to make McKnight a good CB is for him to play in games. If we sign Carr and use him and McKnight sits on the bench instead of playing, how are we going to make McKnight into a good CB?

Carr is probably a better CB right now, but by midseason, maybe it would be McKnight and by next season it would almost certainly be McKnight, assuming that the Jets coaching staff is capable of properly judging his skill set.

I'm not saying the Jets shouldn't sign another CB for depth; all I'm saying is that McKnight should get playing time at CB. The conversion of McKnight to CB is not a panic move because Revis got hurt as they were talking of doing it before Revis got hurt. Sometimes you just have to assume that the Jets coaching staff knows what its doing.

The problem with Wilson is that even after being in the league for a few years he still makes the same mistakes he was making as a rookie.

He has lapses where he doesnt look back at the ball in coverage, and draws penalties.

Let's see what he does when he settles back in on the outside. Playing inside is a much different game and some guys just aren't made for it. I'm not saying he's going to be great on the outside, but his play on the outside is what got him drafted and he hasn't had much of a chance to do that in the NFL.
