If you really believe ur the best D coach in NFL. U can prove it the rest of this season with Revis gone. The great ones are not great because of one player like BB is because of Brady.

If Rex can't get this defense to work decently without Revis, he's fucked. I never thought I'd say that, but it's true in this situation

I wouldn't go so far as to say Rex is fucked, but it will do serious damage to his credibility on two fronts. One, he stated that this could be the best Jets team since he's got here. It's gonna take a miracle to back that statement up. Rex then doubled down and said he was the best defensive mind in football. Now he gets to back that up as well. A lot of pressure on Rex Ryan and I hope he handles it better than his dad did.

This defense couldn't tackle OR get to the QB, regardless of Revis's presence. Just what makes you think Rex will all of a sudden turn it up a notch (or two)?

Seriously, Rex MIGHT be the very defensive mind NFL has to offer. That said, if his unit cannot even perform the basic and routine tasks like tackling and covering like any professional defensive unit is supposed to, I just don't know what good that mad scheming will do for the defense.

Rex's schemes are not going to help our linebackers set the edge and tackle. I still see that as the biggest issue on D. Our secordary is still quite good even without Revis. Of course it hurts us, but if linebackers can't tackle and we can't stop the run, it doesn't matter if we have 4 Revises playing in the secondary. It was obvious, the phins game was night and day with / without Reggie Bush. They didn't even have to throw a single pass until Bush got hurt. I feel that if our LBs could tackle, Revis would never have gotten hurt on that play.

    Revis, Rex, and Belichek

This season is over. That was said before Revis went down yesterday. The Jets were an out of synch offense and an underwhelming defense that not only couldn't stop a rookie QB without strong receiving threats, but also a defense play-calling passively against that rookie QB.

Then Revis goes down. Season over?

Bill Belichek lost Tom Brady and went 11-5. Brady was literally and figuratively that team's QB.

Rex says he's the best defensive coordinator in football. If "Rex is who he says he is," he will scheme around this loss and the Jets will not skip a beat. The real question is who were the Jets before this injury, and either way, if they turn out sucking - what does Rex need to do to improve himself.

Yes, if losing a CB sinks the Jets when they have a recent 1st round pick and a high-priced free agent still on the roster at CB then the ship was already going down and losing Revis was just a boiler exploding as the sea water rushed in.

We can't do anything but start over..we are 20 million over the cap for 37 players next year (we have 16 free agents). We will cut Smith and Pace which will get us to the cap for 35 players. What then? We can keep cutting anybody left that won't cause excessive dead money and then start getting rookies..we still won't even have enough money for that so we can "hope" everybody left will restructure..good luck with that. Who wants to restructure to play on this team? Scott, the other Smith and maybe Pouha will be cut too which would at least free up enough money to pay the rookies.

Any way, I could go on but you get the point.

Show your "great" defensive mind now, Rex. Its time that we see if this guy is actually a great defensive coach or if he has just been blessed to coach great defensive players during his time as a coach like Revis, Ray Lewis, Suggs, Ed Reed.

Talent wise, this Jets defense is about average compared to the rest of the league without Revis. The team has a lack of pass rush and the coverage in the middle of the field is not great, its time for Rex to improvise and show his great defensive mind.

You've said this in multiple threads, but once they cut 3 players (Pace, Scott, and Smith I believe) the drop very under the cap and have room to spend. And every signs point to that being the case after this season before this season even started

    Going down? Wrong there, friend.

[ABANDON THE DAMN SHIP!! NOW! GOD DAMN IT NOW!!] seems like a fitting description for the condition BEFORE Revis injury. I have never seen such a lousy defense that kept missing tackles or blowing coverages on a regular basis.

Do you think I'm kidding? Look. This defense is on pace to give up 400 points this season - they have given up 75 so far, and the ONLY miscue I can think of is Kerley fumble a week ago. Everything else, the defense earned them all themselves. Sure, offense was going out on 3rd and out frequently during the Steelers game, but then the defense could have forced the same thing, no?

400 points total was good for 25th in the league, squarely in the bottom third. The scary part? 75 points given up - that was with Revis still holding the back line. Whatever you imagine from now on - Jets D will show you something worse.

Against the Dolphins the run defense was pathetic, good thing the Fins had no air game. Even if Rex was the defensive coach he says he is, without Revis I just don't think this defense has enough talent to be even close to elite.
