have to say losing revis for a year is bad but also exciting. I ain't scared and y'all shouldn't be either.

this is the perfect opportunity for mark to emerge and assert himself as the leader of the team and one of the "it" qbs in the league. if we go to the playoffs and manage to do well this season will buoy mark's legacy more than what it would done had he won with revis.

the defense will be worse but if we get our offense back to that game 1 level i don't see how it stops us going forward

2-1 best record in the division and I have a feeling the worst is behind us

We'd all rather have Revis, now we don't. We do have Rex, he will have to revise his defensive gameplan around it now. We have Cromartie, have to start there. The first year with Rex we lost Jenkins and Leon in consecutive weeks and finished the year strong, it's football, guys get hurt, you have to play on.

Exactly. Losing Jenkins looked like our Defense was going to fall apart but for the final stretch of the season it was even better than when Jenkins was out there.

we didn't know that we had in Pouha, who actually improved the run defense and went on to become a dominant player bc of that.

You don't have a top-3 league talent at the position to fill in like we did with pouha.

and before u all say "cromartie", CB is a binary position. NT isn't. replacing a NT affects no other position directly. replacing a CB affects the entire depth chart at CB/NB/DB.

Losing Revis will obviously be an easy excuse for the season to tank. I don't think this was going to be more than a middle of the pack year, with or without a healthy Revis. Let's see what some of these guys are made of now.

Like I said in another thread..31 other teams in the NFL don't have Revis and about 14 of them did better than the Jets did last year..get over it..move on.

Pouha is not a top 3 talent at NT. Jenkins was elite and you could tell when he played that he was damn good, Pouha is good, but I wouldn't say he is elite or anything like Jenkins was.

This is going to be where we really see what kind of defensive guru Rex really is.

Say what? NT doesn't affect the rest of the dline? Pou'ha was not a top 3 league talent at the position at the time Jenkins went down in 2009. He did eventually develop into that when Jenkins went down in back to back years, however. It was actually lucky that he did become what he did. I'm hoping Revis being out will do the same thing for Kyle Wilson. That's the absolute best thing that can come out of this. I said it in another thread, it doesn't matter if we have 4 Revises playing in the secondary. If our LBs can't tackle or set the edge to stop the run, the opponent does not have to throw at all. Losing Revis doesn't change all that much in that aspect of our D. CB is deep enough that we'll be alright but LB has me worried with or without Revis.

This will be the chance to see what it will be like when we can't afford to pay Revis's next pay demand!

You are right about one thing. What happens now will tell us a lot about Sanchez. I felt that before Revis went down, but now it's even more true. No more projecting about potential (in year FOUR), and no more hanging your hat on some playoff wins where he had A LOT of help. We'll also see how Sexy Rexy (soon to be skinny?) Ryan responds, and to what degree he is able to compensate for the loss of the best Jets player bar-none.

The answers to these questions are certainly ingriguing, but I would not exactly be excited about finding out the answers to them if I were a Jets fan. Excited is entirely the wrong word. Personally, I think we'll come to actually understand just how important Revis is to the success of the team, not only the defense.

The Jets are a worse team without Revis, and I don't know how anybody can argue with that one.

Hey, when the Patriots lost Brady for the season they didn't go into a shell either, they installed Matt Cassel and still had a very good year. Now is where we are going to see what this team is made of. If the coaches are worth their salt they will find a way to compensate and continue to win games. The DB's will have to man up and do their jobs without Revis there to hold their hands anymore. Now we'll see what kind of fight this team has... Right here, Right now.

Every last bit of this ! I am not excited per se , but I am very interested to see how this team looks, because if they don't pull it together there might be A LOT of changes made in the off season. If you can't pull it together and play well when you job is possibly on the line , I don't know when you will play well.

I don't know how most people feel about this, but I would actually feel worse if we lost Mangold or Howard right now. I think our defense will compensate to some degree, but our offense can't afford to lose ANYBODY right now. A loss of a key offensive player, like Mangold or DBrick or even Howard right now would mean the Jets weak protection would be even worse, and that might be too much to overcome.

The coaches will find a way to gameplan for the loss of Revis. Cromartie will do his job as the #1. Teams will get a few more yards against us but not much more. If the Jets coaches do their jobs the Jets will still continue to win games. The New York Jets are more than ONE PLAYER, even if that player is Revis.

I totally agree , our defense is supposed to be our strength , Revis is our best player on that side of the ball , but damn, if we suddenly just lie down, what does it say about everyone else on our roster.

I agree with the OP. This is really the time to see how good Rex is at defense and which players are going to step up.

The opportunity is there for some guys to make a name for themselves, who will do it...
