This NY Times article hits the nail on the head when it comes to leadership at the QB position. It is not kind to Sanchez, and it holds Tebow up as a good example of leadership.

This guy really gets Tebow -- I'm so sick of hearing Tebow's critics minimize his intangibles into just hard work or being a good guy. It's not that -- it's his passion. He plays with his heart right out there, and asks you "Are you in?"

Anyway, they'll get butt hurt in the main forum pretty quickly, so better post this here for discussion -- but's really a broader topic than Tebow.

    Here's the most salient part.

You just don't seem to get it. Do you?

This is what I learned while in the army.

YOU CANNOT SUCK AND BE A LEADER.

So in that regard, Tebow fails from the get-go. (I'm not saying Sanchez is any better. He did just as poorly.) Simms did NOT suck. He won two rings himself. Get the point?

"Tebow is the type of visceral leader who can help the Jets reverse the up-one-week, down-the-next pattern that has characterized their performances the last two seasons."

That sentence implies the Jets only problem is leadership which is laughable. So his leadership will make up for the lack of a run game, wide receivers beating press coverage, speedy running backs and covering tight ends on defense. Sure. I'm looking to buy a bridge too...

I agree that you can not suck and be a leader, but Tebow has won everywhere he has ever played. If he sucked he would certainly have not accomplished everything he has.

Like him or not, he is a natural leader. He has that "it" factor that most do not possess and he does seem to get everyone around him playing with more passion than usual.

Bannon, thanks for posting the link. It might be the best article the Times ever did. And I think you DO get it.

That's interesting about the up and down-ness, especially considering Tebow is the ultimate up and down player.....and I like Tebow.

Yeah, I get it. Gotta make the plays to be a leader.

We just disagree on whether he sucks -- you've taken his full measure, applied all of your skills in evaluating whether he has the talent to play the position, and have concluded that he doesn't have the ability to do it.

I'm in a different place. But that's all right -- that's football. They come and go every year, and looking back over time, some of the players I thought were sure things were not, and some of the players I thought were just not up to it, keep turning up like a bad penny.
