"Rex Ryan brought in sleep specialists to work with his team this week. But not because the New York Jets sleep-walked through last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers ... well, maybe that is why.

"We've had sleep people come in, talking about how important sleep is, how important it is to get eight hours of it," Ryan told USA Today. "We bring in these specialists for a reason. I just think it's wise to do that, listening to people with a lot more knowledge than myself about it.

"If we can gain a little advantage, then we're going to look for it."

Ryan pushed the Jets' schedule back about 90 minutes this week to allow for more rest leading up to Sunday's AFC East showdown against the Miami Dolphins. Meetings and practice even were cut back.

"It was awesome," defensive lineman Mike DeVito said. "You still get the same amount of work in, but you get to sleep in a little bit more and get off your fee a little more. It was a smart thing, a really smart thing to do. Practice was higher tempo this week and guys are ready to go."

Ryan decides his team needs more rest this week, so early in the season? The Dolphins get no respect..."

Can't block, tackle, or catch yup, a sleep guru is what we needed. Does anyone think leadership and sleep classes are what the Jets need? What's next a palm reader? Astrologist?

I don't necessarily think that's why it was intended. I don't think Rex sat there and thought the only way to fix our issues is to call in a sleep specialist.

You would be amazed at how much sleep can improve your awareness and overall function. It could possibly help a lot

I wish I could afford a sleep specialist. Some nights 2 hours, others 12 hours. I don't think it is an average thing.

    Agree 100% here.

Although, if it wasn't for the reporters, this would have never came out. It seems they asked him and the players about it.

I guess the better answer would be, "no comment".

How about a HC specialist to deliver a set of balls to try to score in the last 2 minutes of a half and play a different QB when the 10mil man plays like a bitch.

Who cares? Does it change the situation one bit if he mentions it or not?

Awwww, ain't that nice. God Bless his little ol sweet heart.

Cookies, milk, nap and blankie next for the high priced paid professional football players of the New York Jets. Just gives some of the fellows more time to stay out late and party hearty mo often, maybe.

"O Good Grief!" (my initial knee jerk reactionary reply.)

    That's the half time activities.

So I guess we push back those 1:00 o'clock games so the kids can sleep in?

Yes it does help to be well rested, but Christ but sounds stupid.

    Pussy is right.

I'm not a sleep expert, but did just read some dumb internet thing on sleep last week.

Studies show that a person can not 'catch up on sleep' by sleeping in (like on the weekends). A person who 'sleeps in' does no better on various tests (attention span, reflexes, etc) than a sleep deprived person.

Only way to 'catch up' is to go to bed EARLIER, not sleep in later. Something to do with internal clock or some shit.

That is true in a way. Studies do also show that if sleeping time is increased on a weekly basis, the body relaxes more and there is a greater attention to detail.

I think he also did it because of the weather here in Miami. They need to stay relaxed and hydrated.

The coach is paying attention to the well being of the team and making sure the players are keeping themselves in the best condition possible.

Season is over. Throw away your TV now. Burn all your Jets jerseys. Buy a Brady jersey.
