Whether people like Chad Pennington or not, they really have to lay off the guy. He is getting such a bad rap like he's a criminal or something because he's trying to come back from two onsecutive arm surgeries and a broken left wrist. The first two injuries were freak injuries and whether the guy is injury prone or not, he has not done a thing but try and help this team win. Not to mention that he IS a winner simply put. He's working the best he can to make this team a contender again, and with anybody on the roster right now BUT Pennington, we go 5-11. Whether you like it or not, he gives us the best chance of winning being 21-16 as a starter with two ROAD playoff wins.

I remember when all anyone on this board would do was defend him to death after he played through his injuries into the playoffs against the Chargers just because Carter really wasn't going to get it done. There was a time when he was the man in New York, and because that window is closing slowly we trash him for Patrick Ramsey and Brooks Bollinger? I wonder if anyone realizes that Joe Gibbs, a quarterback guru with Al Saunders joining him on the coaching staff, didn't like him. Gibbs took three different quarterbacks to Superbowls, and Ramsey was struggling for the 3rd roster spot to Todd Collins. Yet people have more faith in him then Chad?

And as far as a rookie goes, there has been one situation where starting him out right away works. Mangini isn't going to start him opening day so you might as well forget about it. His career really depends on the Clemens pick, and whether or not he can find a quarterback when all the pieces are in place once we are ready to contend. All this year can be a surprise season for Pennington.

Not to mention that everyone wants a vertical passing game. Take a look at the Raiders my friend. The perfect reason why a dink and dunk offense is the only way to start out a great offense. We've made the playoffs with Pennington several times using the "boring" offense that gets it done. The Raiders try and throw flies to Randy Moss every play and they are horrible. The Vikings flopped every year because they had no balance. Tim Dwight and Brad Smith give us the big play threat, although neither are superstars. We honestly don't need a big play threat when you have a smart quarterback. If he's not going to throw the ball to the other team in the short game, then let him work on his "dink and dunking" to move the chains.

Whether some of you like it or not, we have a field possesion, control the game tempo type of team. Good special teams, solid defense and a boring offense. Worked for the Bears and I bet their special teams isn't shaping up to be anything close to what ours is. Granted the defensive isn't there yet, but anytime you put a talented linebacking corps together with a couple of strong lineman they'll do fine. Robertson played well [against the Giants] and Ellis is an absolute monster off the edge again.

So lay off Chad, because I bet a lot of you will be eating all the shit you have talked about him. He doesn't throw it 40 yards downfield. Fine. Gimme a 7 yard slant on 2nd down, good for a first down and I'm fine. If you want razzle dazzle bullshit go root for the Raiders where all they have are big play threats, yet have consistantly flopped and will continue to suck until they add some balance.

Jet fans amaze me. [/end rant]

Nicely put Jonathan my man. I too am frustrated to continually read all this crap about Chad being an 'egg' or not having a laser arm. Lets give the guy some encouragement. Despite his season ending injury last year which must have been heartbreating for him he was out there every week pulling for the team waving that towel. He didn't feel sorry for himself he worked hard and came back again. He's one of the smartest QB's in the game and your right, short yardage pick ups moves the chains. I hope he has a great year! Go Chad!

If a woman kept on breaking my heart - I would dump her...

Chad has broken my heart twice now - so I go into the relationship this time guarded. If he breaks it again I will feel like a chump. There is a part of me that knows I should just move on with my life. Even though it will be difficult in the beginning - I will eventually get over it - and one day be stronger without him.

It was fun while it lasted - but deep in my heart I just know that he isn't the guy for me.

Names don't bother me. Fact.... Unless we pick up a FA QB Chad will start because he is the best we have on roster right now , like it or not. So if you're going to any of the games I would suggest that you get behind him and the team and don't make stupid placards with egg and noodle on them.
Chad is not going to be part of the long term future but the experience he has is invaluable and players like Clemens will benefit greatly.

Agreed. One one side of the coin I know he is a good guy and I want him to succeed. On the other, I just can't help but feel that he is too far removed in terms of arm and his ability to stay uninjured to really lead us to a good season, so lets try someone else.

He's got nothing left to lose, I expect him to try his hardest and leave everything on the field. If he stays healthy, he will surprise some people.

It's one road playoff win. he has 2 playoof wins, the 1st at home vs. Indy and the 2nd at SD.

Chad is a top QB when he's healthy but he may never be fully healthy again but even at 80-90% I'd still take him over most QBs in this league.

Sentimental nonsense. I'd wager that the only reason that Pennington is still on the Jets roster at this point is because they didn't want to take the hit on his awful contract.

It is pre-season. If you are someone who is ripping Chad now, during pre-season, with a rookie Oline, and a rookie OC, after not playing for a year than you are going to be complaining forever.

If we are in our 2nd year of rebuilding this team, and it is the 4th regular season game and we are 0-4 with Chad at the helm then fine, I would understand 100% that Chad needs to go. But to jump the gun like this during pre-season with all new offensive componants is completely rediculous.

Grow up and understand that new Olines complete with new OC's need to figure out how to work together effectively. And that doesnt happen after 3 pre-season games. This is not a playoffs year. Get over it. Chad is not to blame at this point. If you dont understand that, you don't understand football.

dude did you know theres a guy called defensive coordinator we have to face each week? did you know theres a defense out there we have to play against? good, because those 5yd slants wont work 30 times a game. these guys are not retarded, believe it or not. chads arm killed us last year and im not even talking about all the fumbles...

If you were to look down the pike a distance you would have seen by the time we are competive again CP WILL NOT be our starting QB.

You shouldn't feel like a chump after all it's not like he cheated on you. You should look at it as a long term marriage, he isn't quite as hot as he was when you were in the infatuation stage and you aren't as willing to do the snuggling needed to score. You just want to score(throw the ball down the field) and he just wants to snuggle(dink and dunk).

Wow some of you guys are emo. If you are comparing your teams starting QB to a girlfriend you may need to seek counseling. Maybe you should remind yourself it's only a game.

If you obsess over the Jets like this you will end up like this Championjets69 guy and drone on and on about the sands of time and shit.

Yes that is correct IMHO 2010 will be the EARLIEST we will again be competive. You can bookmark this for 2010 when we have still not won a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.

I bookmarked the thread for 07/2010 to rebound to me
