I don't entirely agree with the way this ranking was made (All-pro and statistics don't tell the whole story) but it makes for a good debate... are Harris, Cromartie and Holmes overpaid for what they bring to this team?

In my opinion yes, although for different reasons.

Harris is the better player out of the three and character-wise he is one of the best team-mates on this team. However he is painfully slow in coverage and it doesn't seem to me as if he's a leader (although it's just an impression and I may well be wrong). For what he brings to the table I think he's getting too much money... not that much, and I could see how Tanny wanted to reward him for never bitching about his contract, but a couple of mill too much that could be spent elsewhere.

Holmes and Cromartie are vastly over-paid. On every game you never know what you're going to get from them, they're both idiots (Holmes more but our O has sucked for year, Cro has the advantage of playing with a well working unit, our D) and their production overall is not worth the money we're paying them. Holmes shouldn't even be on this team...

    Agree, disagree?

PS Scott and Pace are also overpaid... we are spending soo much money on maybe the weakest spot on our D, the LBs.

Harris + Scott + Pace are set to count for 25 mill in total against the salary cap. That's absurd.

    Harris + Scott + Pace + Holmes + Cromartie + E. Smith count for 45 mill -.-"

Having Cromartie out there when he's good Cromartie (about 12 games a year) is worth the $8+ million he makes to form the best duo of CB's in the NFL. Of course that 1/4 of a season when he's bad Cromartie (see Pittsburgh) makes you want to drop kick a small child, preferably one of his 73.

Holmes and Harris are over-paid, as is Calvin Pace. How Calvin Pace isn't on the list, but Jonathan Joseph and Vernon Davis are, is beyond me.

Holmes is a #2 WR in a #1 WR role, making Top 10 or Top 5 #1 WR money, with a Top 10 or Top 5 #1 WR of all-time attitude.

Harris, who I very much have liked before he was a Jet as a U of Michigan fan, has always been over-rated by the fanbase. He's a good LB. Not great. Not special. He's too slow to cover a TE and his play is declining rather quickly. Certainly not worth $12 million per.

So far this year, Bart Scott looks to be the best LB on this team. Scary.

25 million for a linebacking corps that is the worst unit of the defense. If that's not an indictment of our personnel department, nothing is.

Wow an overpaid list and it didn't have Tebow on it.

Then again he would only be overpaid if he doesn't play and with the way Sanchez looked last week (10 OF 27) he could be our starter by mid season. I mean if we are going to look bad anyways.

I don't consider Cromartie to be vastly overpaid -- he's one of the better cornerbacks in football, and he's making roughly fair market value. You could argue that the Jets shouldn't have spent so much money their #2 corner, but that's a different discussion.

I agree with the other two, however. Harris is a great player, but a run stuffing middle linebacker is just not all that valuable in today's NFL. And Holmes' contract is a fucking dumpster fire, obviously.

The good news: Scott, Pace and Thomas will most likely be off the team next year. The bad news: we have to replace them and decide what to pay Landry (if he stays healthy).

All of them are were paid about market rate at the time those contracts were signed - so they were not bad contracts, and only Holmes isnt playing up to his contract (at this time).

yep...... and that's why the JETS are stuck in the position they're at. Teetering along the cliff, with no depth as a safety net.

To be fair, Bart Scott may of been overpaid, but he was pretty good in 2009 and 2010. We'll never be able to justify the Calvin Pace contract though, dude never had a 10 sack season with that big ass contract.

They will all be off the books anyway this off-season.

Considering that that list has Jonathan Joseph in the top 5 and he's probably the second best CB in football (and not to mention the Texans went up over 20 in the rankings when he came in) I'm not sure I buy anything on it.

I can't take a list that says Vernon Davis at $8 million is one of the most overpaid players in the league.

That said, those three are overpaid

For me, the slideshow freezes at the second slide (Karlos Dansby). Can someone post the full list?

Bart was overpaid out of a combination of necessity and desperation when Rex came in to instill his idea of a culture to the defense, but the price was overpaying a role playing overachiever who was nearing the end of his prime. We could have gotten a lot better than 'pretty good' for that kind of money.

Holmes is overpaid -- he's gotten a lot of mileage out of that Super Bowl catch.

Saw this earlier, can't say I disagree with any of the Jet's players on the list. What's really sad is the fact that we have 3 out of the top 10 on the list, when no other team has more than 1 in the top 10.

David Harris suffers from classic overrated/underrated syndrome. He was truly underrated for so long that it has had a rebound effect and he is now overrated by many. People spent so much time talking about how underrated he was that it actually ended up making him overrated because all people could talk about was how much better he was than most people thought. He's an average or slightly above average LB.

Harris and Holmes are definitely over paid.
