Sanchez is an average QB. He can win us games, but in my opinion he's not a guy that should be our QB for the next 10 years. The problem is, half the league is ALWAYS looking for an answer at quarterback. Our best chance to upgrade will be through the draft, trading up like we did for Sanchez, and rolling the dice again. It won't be next season, and it probably won't be the season after that. I think Mark will be our QB for the next 2 or 3 seasons at LEAST. He'll either grow into something similar to Eli Manning (a really solid, barely top 10 QB), or he'll continue to throw under 60% completion, and become a journeyman QB that will hop teams a couple times and be out of the league by the time he's 30. I like some of the things I've seen in Sporano's offense, but the accuracy is still a problem, only time will tell what happens, but our QB situation isn't likely to change any time soon unless Mark suffers a really bad injury.
I think Alex Smith may be a better comparison than Eli. Rely on a great defense, control the football, make plays when you have to in order to win games. Hopefully, it won't take him as long, and hopefully, he can be even better, but I think that's the type of team we want to be, and that's the type of QB Sanchez can be in that offense. Flacco and Ben are both huge with big arms (especially Flacco). Even though Rex is used to Baltimore/Pitt, I think San Fran is our best model right now.
The Jets are stuck in a tough situation. We are too good to end up with a really high pick and the top QB in the draft and if we try to replace Sanchez we will need to cut him in my opinion. I guess one option would be to bring in a guy next year, call it a competition, and cut the loser. Still, that often leads to getting a mediocre guy. The only other option I see is shelling out for the best FA available, and there might not be a really good one for a while.
i think sanchez's contract is set up so we cant cut him cap wise until 2014. I do believe the Jets are giving him 2 years to make a claim or else they are moving on.
I am hardly a Sanchez fan but having this thread after two games into the season? Youve got to be kidding. Ftr I like McElroy, though. Anyone but Tebow. I can't wait until he's off the team.
Ive seen sanchez show signs of greatness, but then I've also seen sanchez look like a helpless skilless QB. I believe in sanchez, im just hoping soon enough something just clicks and he can just keep performing at a high level
It's one game. Did you miss the Bills game? The Steelers played very good D, roughed Sanchez up, and smothered our receivers in coverage.
Barcs, But surely you would concede that lack of consistency by Sanchez is an issue, no? I mean even the best players have games worse than others, but Sanchez seems to have much wider parameters of that sort. I have to wonder why. But whatever the reason, into year four it is still an issue, no doubt about it. Even his fans have to be concerned, and as a Jet fan who would much prefer to think he can become a better Qb, and obviate the need to go elsewhere, I am certainly concerned about it. But... give him more than just two games for crying out loud.
smh. the Jets lose to the Steelers, and we need a new QB. It's week 2, chill out. Mark was fine yesterday. how many balls did our receivers drop that hit them in the hands or numbers?
Which is true. As "bad games" go, it wasn't so bad. No bad decisions on throws, no turnovers, didn't force it, wasn't indecisive and holding the ball too long, sacks were minimal, etc. This might be very much what a game looks like with the entire offense is not talented enough to line up and go toe-to-toe with its opponent. Sparano said in the preseason he was going to sort of simplify and let guys win their matchups. Maybe this is what you get (without Keller, at least, and he's no superman). I mean, a few breaks here and there, some catchable balls caught, and it could have been more respectable. What I found striking was the seeming complacency towards losing.
I just said I got faith in Sanchez and guys are saying already in this thread I'm trying to replace Sanchez I want him as my QB for god's sake if you guys learn how to analyze what you read you would see me saying If you dont think Sanchez is gonna work what should we do then me explaining how hard it is to find a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK, its damn near impossible Packers- Aaron Rodgers- drafted Patriots- Tom Brady- drafted Broncos- Peyton Manning- acquired Saints- Drew Brees- acquired Ravens- Joe Flacco- drafted Falcons- Matt Ryan- drafted Colts- Andrew Luck- drafted Redskins- Robert Griffin III- drafted Giants- Eli Manning- drafted/acquired Eagles- Michael Vick- acquired Panthers- Cam Newton- drafted Texans- Matt Schaub- acquired Rams- Sam Bradford- drafted Chargers- Philip Rivers- drafted Bengals- Andy Dalton- drafted Bears- Jay Cutler- acquired Lions- Matthew Stafford- drafted Cowboys- Tony Romo- acquired Pittsburgh- Ben Roethlisberger- drafted are the only teams with Franchise QB's Dolphins- Ryan Tannehill- drafted Seahawks- Russell Wilson- drafted Titans- Jake Locker- drafted Buccaneers - Josh Freeman- drafted Jaguars- Blaine Gabbert- drafted Vikings- Christian Ponder- drafted Browns- Brandon Weeden- drafted are still on the fence with their guys Raiders- Carson Palmer- acquired Cardinals- Kevin Kolb- acquired Bills- Ryan Fritzpatrick- acquired need Franchise QB's Jets- Mark Sanchez- drafted 49ers- Alex Smith- drafted Chiefs- Matt Cassell- acquired these can win games for their teams 22/32 starting QB's were drafted and still with those teams Answer is simple we stick with Mark and if he fails draft one in 2014
It's tough to really say how well he played yesterday. He overthrew a few balls but it's also quite clear the pass catchers dropped balls or ran the wrong routes. We essentially had no running game to speak of after the 1st two drives so it's tough to pin it on Sanchez. I'd love to be able to see the tape to see if other WR's were open and he was forcing it to Holmes all day or there really were no other options. That's the real question and none of us will ever really know what the situation was.
the thing is,the forced throw to santonio were still catchable. the accuracy was there, just nobody could/would make a play. o.t. defensively the same thing happened, rex was willing to concede yards in order to let a paly be made somewhere on d and noone stepped up. i am still confident but am starting to worry this team is void of true playmakers.hope someone steps up
WTF??? I love this thread. While our QB may be somewhat incompetent, this thread shows the incompetency of the fanbase. SOJFs running a muck in week two. God I love this place. Tebow = Lombardi's; McElroy as our starter. LMAO!!! Why don't we see if we can get Vinney and Namath off the couch - the media can call us the Jeriatric Jets. Instead of saying this is a clown house they can say this is now the convalescent home. Or better yet, maybe we can talk to the Krazy Glue company and they can come up with something to hold Chad's arm on for 14 more games:rofl2:.
Big Blocker, I totally agree with you. It's important to note that lack of consistency was pervasive throughout the whole team, including the running schemes, lack of wide receivers that can catch and the entire offensive supporting cast out of synch overall. Not to mention our defense really laid a major egg and so did special teams. Hard for me to think Sanchez should be the one to blame on this one. No stupid interceptions, no significant number of poor passes. I think our biggest problem as a team is our inability to finish up plays with intensity and concentration, be it tackles (all), catches, stupid penalties (Landry), major mental mistakes (Cromartie and Curley) Couple that with the lack of a major playmaker in offense that can get things going when we struggle ( no Sanchez is not that guy) and we collapse as the first signs of adversity and physical play appear. Its going to take more than the QB to fix out wows
yes they are under the teams can win with these I got the categories under neath not on top if the 49ers dont win it'll most likely be because of Alex Smith but they play to his strengths, he's not elite, not a franchise QB but he plays well and effective
