Very disconcerting. Why couldn't we take advantage of their weak o-line? Where is our supposed improved pass rush?
We had a potential 8 sacks. Whiffed on 6 on them. We had plenty of pressure and hurried a lot of throws, we just whiffed.
They had plenty of pass rush. They bring that kind of heat every week they will be fine. Big Ben is just so good under pressure and shaking off guys. The play he made to JCo was just brilliant and a huge play in the game. The Steelers kick the FG there if Ben goes down and the Jets have a 10-9 lead at the half but instead the next play is a TD to Miller. Give credit where credit is due.
im not sure it was a lack of pass rush as much as it was the jets inability to bring Big Ben down...something teams struggle with every single week. yet another post loss misfire of a thread
Our pass rush was only effective when we sent extra men, but that was the case for the Steelers as well. I just wish for the life of me that we could have a consistent 4 man rush without sending extra players.
Every sack and QB pressure seems to come on casino blitzes. You rarely see a D-Lineman win 1-on-1. Roethlisberger makes me sick. I'm not sure who to hate more, him or the Defense for not being able to bring him down.
Yeah they got to him a few times, he just drug them around like they were his kids and they were playing in the backyard.
Tackling is a huge problem for the Jets and is increasing across the league. With the new CBA, there isn't much time to practice with full pads. Ridiculous.
I said it in another thread but I don't get why Coples and Maybin were barely in the gameplan for this game. When its 3rd and 7+ I expect a Pace /Maybin outside, Coples/Wilkerson inside and we never saw it. Pouha or Devito should never be in on those situations. I also don't understand the obsession with sending Maybin up the middle. Hes clearly NEVER going to get to the qb in that situation. And teams have wised up to him, he was almost always doubled when hes on the outside now but hes never on the field.....
Dirty 30 had the biggest flop of them all. Straight at Big Ben and he runs right pass him which eventually leads to TD. Reminds me of last years Denver game when Jim Leonhard had the runner stopped in their endzone but completely missed tackled and Denver alone with Tebow runs in for the game winner.
It's not just the lack of practices. The legal ways to tackle a ball-carrier keep getting refined down for safety reasons and so what's worked for a lot of the late 20's early 30's crowd since high school is no longer legal. No launching. No horse-collar. No helmet to helmet. No leading with the helmet. No hitting the opponent in the head with the shoulder. Every season recently has seen a re-definition of the rules on what was legal and what was not. Tackling is going to take a big hit until the younger guys raised under these rules begin to filter through. Look at the Steelers yesterday, they made at least one and probably two hits during the game that are major fine-worthy but that wouldn't have been looked at twice a decade ago. Landry on the other hand is just a dirty player. The out of bounds hits he made during the game were illegal in every era going back to the 70's and would have been flagged as such even back then. We actually got lucky that he didn't draw another flag or two.
Spot on. We got through a bunch of times but he's so elusive (and always has been) that we just couldn't take him down. Even factoring in that he's more elusive than the average QB we should have had at least 3 more sacks IMO.
