Poor tackling comes from the heart. No heart last week when were up 41-7 No heart this week once the Steelers creamed Sanchez & Greene on helmet to helmet hits The only guy who's got some spunk (Landry) is out of control and will either be suspended or injured before too long
the takeaway is that our defense fucking sucks. but of course the media are the imbeciles for not thinking we were going to be good and ignoring our all world defense.
Defense can only do so much... They were on the field all game. Under 200 yards offense pre-garbage time, including under 100 total passing (including sacks) and under 100 total rushing. Offense was absolutely horrid after the first drive. Line play was mediocre, too many drops, no explosive plays, and Sanchez reverted to the fetal position at the first hint of adversity.
Our entire team was going for the big play, not just bring the man down, it was all leading with your shoulder you gotta get low get your arms around his waist and bring him down
The major thing going into the game is "if the Jets can bring down Big Ben..." Well, they couldnt MULTIPLE times. Sad.
The steelers scored 27 points (which some consider average in NFL) with a VERY lopsided time of possession, without our best defensive player, playing at home coming off a very dire 0-1 loss. I think the defense will be fine. Our guys were just tired
Tough to blame the D for this loss. We were on the field for 2/3 of the time. With that said the tackling has been atrocious in both games so far.
Yep. Tackling. They had shots at Big Ben and only got him once or twice. They just missed. Then late in the game, the fatigue set in the, the last drive, and they couldn't get off the field. It was simple stuff today. Tackles and drops. Looked sloppy
When you give up 8 of 14 third down completions that's not on the offense. Even when they had 3rd and 33 they get torched for 25 yards allowing the Steelers to get to midfield and force the Jets inside the 15 yard line. Throw in a 3rd and 16 when the game is in reach beaten for a 35 yard TD pass on a play that Cromartie should have broken up or at least forced Wallace out of bounds on but he overran the play so badly he had not shot to make a play.
Definitely the defense tackling today was horrid. They let Roth (who is difficult to bring down) have way too many second chances and when they actually got pressure on him Cromartie wiffs big time. They couldn't stop the Steelers on third down and generally played uninspired. While the offense was nothing to write home about the time of possession issue was more on the defense not being able to get off the field.
This. That play by Cromartie was unacceptable. It was a fucking floater from Big Ben and he still fucking overran it.
I totally agree on those two specific plays, but most of those 3rd down completions were a result of Ben making plays under pressure. I thought the coverage was pretty good overall ... but he extends plays better than any QB in the league, and (unlike us) his receivers NEVER seem to let a ball hit the ground. Anything in the neighborhood of their hands gets caught. The Cromartie disaster completely changed the game. I thought the run defense was fine until they got tired at the end of the game. Much better than last week.
Fair points. Every phase sucked today. Offense did nothing after the first drive. ST had a turnover (and why does McKnight continue to take the ball out when he's 9 yds deep?) Only positive I saw today was the run defense, and McIntyre looked fine at OLB in placement of Thomas.
