Rest assured, this team will not be at #1 in the draft. The weak schedule and very good defense will see to that. Jets will have a winnig record if Penington stays healthy - and IF is a big one.....
Trade down, and get a running back, get a pass rusher, get a wide receiver...the list goes on and on.
My feelings are this.... Clemmens is our QB therefore Quinn won't even be an option, teams like Detroit, Houston, Oakland, Minnesota and Buffalo will all be looking for a QB next year and are all expected to be bad teams. The Jets don't need a QB therefore in the unlikely ecent we have the #1 pick it is traded. It's pretty clear this team wants to build an Oline and the Guard from Purdue (only a junior and his name is slipping me) is he best right now. Although grabbing a Tackle like Sam Baker out of USC to play the RT would be a great move. Yes he is a RT but he blocked Lienart's blind side remember Matt is a southpaw. Adrian Jones isn't going to cut it much longer.....
Who ever gets this kid next year is going to have one hell of a player. I think he'll fit damn near anywhere. Poz, Connor Up For Butkus Paul Posluszny. By PSU Sports Information Posted Aug 24, 2006 Nittany Lion linebacker look to keep the award in house for the 2006 season. Posluszny captured the award in 2005 and has a chance to be only the second player ever (along with Brian Bosworth) to capture two Butkus trophies. A pair of Penn State standouts are among the candidates for the 2006 Butkus Award, presented to the nation's top linebacker. Senior Paul Posluszny (Aliquippa), the 2005 Butkus Award winner, and junior Dan Connor (Wallingford), are among the 65 candidates for the Butkus Award, which is presented by The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. (DACO). The prestigious award is named in honor of former Chicago Bears NFL Hall of Fame member, Dick Butkus. Last year, Posluszny captured "Linebacker U's" second Butkus Award, joining former All-American LaVar Arrington in 1999. Winner of the 2005 Bednarik Award, Posluszny has an opportunity to join Oklahoma's Brian Bosworth (1985-86) as the only repeat winner in the 22-year history of the Butkus Award. Penn State is one of six schools with two candidates for the Butkus Award, and the lone Big Ten school with multiple candidates. Posluszny and Connor are joined by senior Tim Shaw (Livonia, Mich.) to form the nation's No. 1 linebacker unit, according to The Sporting News. During the 2005 season, Posluszny was a consensus first team All-American and the only junior finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award, in addition to winning the Butkus and Bednarik Awards. The 2006 Big Ten and consensus national pre-season Defensive Player of the Year, he is ranked No. 5 on the Watch List for the Heisman Trophy by Lindy's Football. In 2005, Posluszny became the seventh Nittany Lion to earn first team All-America and Academic All-America honors. He is one of the squad's top students with a 3.57 grade point average in finance through the spring semester. Posluszny has made the Dean's List in five of his initial six semesters and is on schedule to graduate in December, 3 ? years after enrolling at Penn State. Posluszny is the 12th linebacker to earn first team All-America honors at "Linebacker U" under Coach Joe Paterno. He is a member a group of former Penn State linebackers that includes: Dennis Onkotz, Jack Ham, Greg Buttle, Shane Conlan, LaVar Arrington and Brandon Short as first team All-Americans. The former Hopewell High School standout led Penn State with 116 tackles last season and has 256 career stops, needing 88 to pass Greg Buttle and become the school's career leader. Posluszny is only the fourth Nittany Lion to record 100 or more hits in consecutive seasons. During the 2005 season, Posluszny became the first Big Ten student-athlete selected Football Player of the Week (Offense, Defense or Special Teams) three consecutive weeks since the conference began the selections in 1987. Posluszny is Penn State's first two-time team captain since Mike Reid and Steve Smear in 1969. Connor started the final seven games last season and recorded 76 tackles, tied with Shaw for fourth on the team. He made 5.5 tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks and was third on the team with eight pass break-ups. The former Strath Haven High School All-American also returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown at Illinois. The Butkus Award? Watch List will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalists on Thursday, October 19. Three finalists will be announced on Thursday, November 9. The winner will be announced Saturday
if you're dumbway, you trade the pick for a raiders reject to save money on a first round contract. then, you give a guy who only performed in 6 games, a contract that will cause you to lose other talented players to higher offers from other teams. but, at least you have a shot at remaining in the playoffs while you rebuild on the fly.
if he's healthy, you are guaranteed a high draft pick, and shots at the sack and interception records.
Don't be so quick to judge. Getting a player like Adams or Moses to rush off the end would change the face of our team much like Shawne Merriman and DeMarcus Ware did last year. Or if a big NT falls out of no where he could be an important piece. If we don't draft one of the big WRs in the first, I want a pass rushing OLB or a NT.
I hate to be the one who has to point out the obvious, but traditionally after you win the Superbowl you get the 32nd pick, not the first.
then i suggest you turn off the television set for the next 24 sundays to prevent any sort of disappointment..wouldnt want the jets to do good now would you? either way this whole thread is pointless this early in the season...and if we couldnt get the #1 pick last season with all of our injuries...what makes you think we can get it this year...if anything we have improved greatly..despite the loss of marquee player like abraham, law, and mawae....the earliest we will be drafting this year is about 7 or 8
Well for the sake of good discussion I would say we go for Calvin Johnson. Good size, hands, and speed. 6'6" 230 lbs and runs the 40 in 4.44. And a measly 16.9 yards per catch. The amount of UFA runningbacks next season is incredible. Ahman Green, UFA, Green Bay Packers Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers Tiki Barber, UFA, New York Giants Ladell Betts, UFA, Washington Redskins Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans Correll Buckhalter, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles Najeh Davenport, UFA, Green Bay Packers Nick Goings, UFA, Carolina Panthers Maurice Hicks, RFA, San Francisco 49ers Patrick Pass, UFA, New England Patriots Adrian Peterson, UFA, Chicago Bears Artose Pinner, RFA, Detroit Lions Michael Pittman, UFA Tampa Bay Buccaneers B.J. Sams, RFA, Baltimore Ravens Marcel Shipp, UFA, Arizona Cardinals Antowain Smith, UFA, Houston Texans
Yeah, sure can't wait until Patrick Pass becomes available... Here is a slimmer list for ya: Ahman Green, UFA, Green Bay Packers Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans Correll Buckhalter, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles Najeh Davenport, UFA, Green Bay Packers Michael Pittman, UFA Tampa Bay Buccaneers Marcel Shipp, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
I would still draft Adrian Peterson and let Kellen Clemens take the reins. However, it is way too early to start talking 2007 draft
we should all just wait and see if the Jets tank and save the draft threads for the off season, not to mention that Quinn has not thrown a pass as yet. What if the first time he drops back to pass, he gets swarmed under and someone rips his throwing arm completely off is shoulder? Impossible you say? well, lets just wait and see..
