Jets have the # 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft and Brady Quinn is coming off a Carson Palmer like senior season where he won the Heisman, broke all sorts of passing records and won the national championship. Do you draft him, why or why not?

I thought we were gonna make it through preseason without a draft thread for 2007...guess not.

draft him, a franchise QB is hard to come by.

but we can't rightfully answer until Clemens gets some action this year. (which he will).

    Drafting Offensive players

When you draft a ball handler in the first round the number one rule is; "Be prepared for a let down." The odds are so against that player making the transition to the NFL that the first round draft choice is most of the time wasted.
Mid round draft prospects, intelligently used, are more often more bang for the buck.
It takes a lot of work to perform in the NFL. When all of the attention is on the "superstar" label it is harder for a person coming from a "Program" to transition to self control.

    Of course, sometimes I'm wrong.

Brady Quinn is lucky to be in a system that puts up numbers. There is absolutely nothing extraordinary about him that I can see would justify a Heisman trophy or a #1 pick.

As GM of the Jets, I would draft Quinn and run a 3 QB set with Pennington, Clemens, and Quinn.

Defenses will be taken completely off-guard.

If we get the #1 pick, it means that Clemens likely would've seen a good deal of playing time. If he does well, then trade down and get a lot and then pick up a RB like Peterson.

    I wouldn't draft him

because we drafted our franchise QB of the future this year.

I would take Adrian Peterson #1 overall. If he doesn't come out, trade down a few picks and then grab Michael Bush. That guy is going to be a monster in the NFL.

Ron Dayne was "supposed" to be a monster in the NFL...we need to draft All-Day Peterson or Marshawn Lynch

With the #1 pick you take the player who stands out head and shoulders above the crowd. If you can't identify that player you hope that somebody else thinks they can and you trade down.
