CJ Spiller had a 56 yard TD run and also a 49 yard run to the NYJ 2 that set up their TD in the 3rd. That's 105 of the 169 yards Spiller had and 195 total Buffalo had. So take out those runs and Spiller had 64 yards on 12 carries, 5.33 YPC, and Buffalo had a total of 90 yards on 24 carries, 3.75 YPC. Not too concerning but it'd be nice if we limited these big plays, especially since teams are going to be terrified to throw the ball

If you take away the plays where we were bad, we were good!

IMHO the attempted strip of the ball on Spillers touchdown was the only "mistake" that Landry made yesterday. Had he gone for the player and not the ball, that touchdown may not have happened.

That's Bart Scott I believe. Landry failed to "wrap" the ball carrier. He never went for the ball.

It is true though. The defense was very good. Not every team has a weapon in the backfield as dangerous as Spiller, and he's great in the open field.

Can't allow the big plays though. The first one should have been tackled in the open field, but Landry and Scott both whiffed.

The 2nd one was in garbage time. At that point, it was 41-7. It was still mid-3rd quarter, but you can understand the defense relaxing just a little bit at that point.

Jackson was totally bottled up, but the Jets have usually struggled against speed backs under Rex that can get outside, or can break one tackle and then bust up the middle for a big gain.

Luckily, unless some under-the-radar players pop up between now and later, we don't face too many backs as explosive as Spiller. We will face Chris Rainey, Reggie Bush 2x, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Isaiah Pead, Chris Johnson and Spiller again, but only Bush and Johnson are really at that level to burn us consistently.

If you take away Buffalo's 28 points, the Jets had a shut out! Seriously though, the Jets D is really good. Statswise it won't say so but they are strong against the run and the pass. I'm excited.

That was Scott. He assumed Landry would make the tackle so he wasn't too concerned about Spiller breaking away, so he went for the strip. Landry on the other hand just missed taking Spiller down. Its not as bad as it looked and 9 out of 10 times, Landry makes that tackle. That was the other one time.

They let up 7 points, one play for any significant yardage, and absolutely nothing in the air, while racking up 3 INT's, a strip, and a recovery during the period of time when what was going on on the field could be described as an NFL football game. Once the score was 41-7, nothing that happened on the field was an indication of how either team would perform under real game circumstances.

Now one of those big runs happened at 21-0, so that's a problem, but other than that, and the shovel INT, the Jets were spotless during any meaningful action.

I don't agree with this because of what actually happened - a fast runner got in space and just blew by the linebackers. That has nothing to do with playing prevent or going into a shell, or anything else; it has to do with something everyone should have known from last year, that the Jets LBs are s..l..o..w. In fact, I would say that the strong performance otherwise is a real positive, since even when the game was out of hand the Bills could do very little, but there is nothing positive about the simple fact that the LBs are going to have a lot of trouble with fast running backs and tight ends all season.

Let's not forget the Patriots have Ridley who is supposedly a burner also. Teams are so scared of the pass when they play the Pats that the run opens up big time. The Pats are gonna be one tough team to contain this season as always.

i will get flamed for this but,e.smith would have been an asset against spiller. yeah his coverage is bad but he is good in run support and faste then the lbs. i think against the faster backs rex will deploy a 3 safety look to get some more spped on the field.

really having the d exposed a little in a blowout win is a good thing. rex will take note and adjust accordingly

The big plays on the ground killed us last year. The two big spiller runs scare me a little and I'm worried that these speedy guys who can take it outside ( a la mcfadden, mccoy ...last year) will give us trouble again. Good news is there aren't too many guys in the league who can do that. Let's hope it was just an aberration though and that we won't get burnt by big run plays the rest of the way.

If you take away the 3 td passes by Sanchez the Jets lose. What the heck?

I think the two spiller runs will serve the jets well. It showed some weaknesses without jeopardizing the outcome. Fast RBs are a prob for every team, especially teams that get ahead of themselves and away from the fundamentals - tackling. The first run should have been stopped after 10-12 yards.

12 for 62 still isn't anything to be happy about and when Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Kendall Hunter and Stevan Ridley come to town (not so much Frank Gore, he's a bruiser), that simply won't get the job done. Period.
