I was at the game last night so it was a little hard to analyze so correct me if im wrong when i say that EVERY time we were lined up in the 3-4, all 4 linebackers dropped back in coverage. We got absolutely no pressure on Eli. It was a joke. He was in the pocket for like 8-10 seconds every play with no pressure on him. Its a little hard to get pressure on the QB when you only rush 3 guys, especially with an undersized NT. I thought Dave Ball played very well on the run, but they needed to blitz. Im not even close to being on the Sutton band wagon.
not to mention it was a PRE-SEASON GAME, so why would we be showing different blitzes in games that don't count...maybe mangini wanted to work on coverage
As I've read some quotes from Manning, he said that the Jets were dropping everyone into coverage, and although he had the time, he couldn't find any open recievers. He also said he should have run with the ball to force the Jets out of that defense. Sounds to me like it worked pretty well, at least according to the opposing team's QB... he was frustrated trying to throw against it. It was, from a game standpoint, an effective scheme.
Its funny when like any QB has a bad game there like it was a rough start blah blah, but when pennington does they put the camera on him and he looks like an a..hole i can't explain its funny though
the offense stinks--every team will clog the middle of the field and force Chad to throw outside--a formula for disaster. i think the defense will be pretty decent. nice stupidity from miller. do not understand the criticism of mangini--he is trying to teach a bunch of idiots how to play like a team. he is also trying to introduce the concept of accountability to guys who have been running around like kindergarten kids at recess for the past few years. that will take time.
The Jets dropped into coverage frequently, but it worked. Manninng couldn't buy an open reciever all night, and it isn't like the Jets run defense suffered much. Barber had a typical Barber night, but he didn't tear them to shreds. You guys have a solid, young defense to look forward to for several years.
