    The Good:

Pennington can throw the deep ball, and well enough to make it a threat (but I already knew that from TC).

Kassel was a great pickup.... he may be better than Barton at ILB.

Rhodes.... didn't get hurt. This kid is a stud. That was a scary moment there.

    Ball has some game.

    Robertson looked a bit better.

We're in good shape at safety.

Our special teams.... thank God for Westoff and Graham.

    The BAD

    Ferguson's two off sides penalties.

The total failure of ANY RB being able to pick up a blitz, especially Washington.

Brad Smith stopping his route in mid-play, resulting in an INT.

    Cotchery being shut down.

Jolley. Baker. Dreessen. Can anyone here run a route and catch the ball? Can any one of them block, even?

    Thomas getting shut down.

Our ones not being able to put a drive together against the Giant twos.

    The UGLY

The Giants. They were attempting to inflict injuries, and got away with an awful lot of cheap shots after the whistle. Madison should have been flagged on the Jolley unsportmanlike penalty. He clearly was giving him the business more that 5 yards out of bounds. They were throwing elbows after the play almost the whole first half, after the whistle, and Burress should have been ejected on that facemask penalty.... he tired to rip that DB's head off.... clear intent to injure. They were throwing cheap shots around like I've never sen before. I was so pissed, I wanted to see a Giant get seriously hurt. In the 40 years I've been watching football, I never went that low. I am now, for the first time, an official Giants hater.

Miller. That taunting penalty. I swear, if I was Mangini, I would have taken his helmet away. I am starting to think he's just too stupid to play in the NFL. The first hint was when he said Louis Fahrakan (or however you spell that racist's name) was his most idolized person and role model. This kid needs to be beitch slapped.

Barlow. Geeze, no wonder SF was dying to dump THIS turd.

Houston. Maybe the best all around RB on the team, and he sits.

Nugent. that was one UGLY freakin FG attempt. I've defended this kid till now.... but I am officially on the "does this kid suck list?" now.

The WHOLE game. The D was OK.... but the O was worse than pitiful.

Summary: Well, I knew it was going to be a long year. Take a good look at Mangini now. He looks his age. In 6 months, he'll look like he's 45 years old. This team is going to make him age... fast.

Why was that FG attempt so bad? It hit off the right upright from 49 yards out... It wasn't that bad

If that is correct, I take it back.... I thought is was like 12 yards short. they never replayed it, and these two announcers... Eagle and Buttle.... thank God they don't do regular season games. I'll watch the game again tomorrow.

Pennington proved that he has no arm and is going to get our WR killed. He has proven that he can be a solid clip board holder and back up QB. I play football in park games with guys in their late 40's who have as good an arm as Pennington. If Clemens is our future he will be starting by game 5 at the latest.

Well that may be a by product of this line not being able to protect the pocket. We might have to go to Clemens because of his mobility. Chad is going to get killed any week now with these hits he's taking.

Chad is also going to get our WR killed if he does get pass protection.

Bollinger should start until the line gells and than they should throw Clemens in after the tough early portion of the schedule.

I actually was able to check out his kickoffs tonight. I was so high up in the upper deck I could see the difference between the hangtime on Nugent's kickoffs and the bullet line drives from the Giants' kicker. Nugent's kickoffs really hang up there. Probably why our coverage teams have been so good.

Yeah, this is a tough call. Personally, I don't see that much weakness in Chad's arm, as he made a couple of nice throws tonight. But alot of his passes are sailing too high. Whether that's because he feels the impending rush or its a matter of needing more work on timing patterns.

In any event, he can't keep throwing these passes high because Coles is going to go down for good any week now. It might be better to work out of the shotgun exclusively with Chad. I'm pulling for Chad, but we need mobility right now because this line is learning, and Brooks and Clemens can give that. With a couple of weeks left in this pre-season, I really don't feel comfortable with the way this offense is operating, and thats not a good sign.

Agreed. They really shit on Ced tonight. He carried a load last season and didn't even see the field tonight....although neither did Brooks or Pat. I didn't get to watch but I will watch it tomorrow on NFL Network. I listened on Sirius though..... and what the hell was with all the sacks we gave up?

It seems as though both teams played bad....and this Justin Miller stuff....WTF...what did he do to get flagged? And a racist is his role model? Seems like a punk to me.....too many of these guys need to realise the NFL isn't a ghetto and that they need to grow up.(ie. Pacman Jones, Chris Henry, Koren Robinson)

I am not happy to hear about Nugent's miss....as dwalsh said, it's not that bad considering he had the distance but just hit an upright. To me it is still bad though because we are yet to see him make one from that far in a game situation. Thus far he has not been an improvement over Brien.

Kellen has bad stats and I will decide if I think he played but when I watch the game tomorrow....but his number sure weren't impressive. And D'Brick's penalties make me question his confidence. He was up against Umeniora and had to move early, so what will he do against Taylor and Freeney?

And where was Tui Alailefaleula? He didn't record any tackles....was he in the game?

The FG clanged off the uprights. I was at the game. When I saw it on the replay on SNY it was funny because you couldn't see it hit the uprights. I don't blame Ian because he happens to be one of the least annoying announcers.

Pennington may have hit JMac on that one nice pass and can surely loft one down the sideline, but he is awful on the midrange throws. He audibled into that pick and the Giants DB with the Dreads just read him like a book and stepped in front of the ball. Also, as mentioned, Chad has no escapability and can't even feel the pressure to slide in the pocket and buy 2 seconds to throw the ball. He's better off going down on those because those are the type of throws where you need to wing it and he can't wing it. Jets are severely handicapped with Chad because they have to throw out plays every other team runs, and the ones that they do run they have to get blocking or Chad goes down. The incomplete to Coles on third down where Chad threw it way over his head is troubling because that didn't look like Chad at all, and if he's worse than he was before, let's face it, he wasn't ever great. He was good. Maybe really good a few games. Now I don't know what he is.

D played well, I thought. J Miller is a player. He was chirping with Shockey all night and he went low himself once that I saw on someone else...kinda cheap....but he's a player because he's got the speed and some good instincts. He'll make some big plays this year, I bet.

He's had two shoulder surgeries and his arm was not a rocket to begin with.

I've seen nothing out of him since late October of 2004 to suggest that he's an NFL QB any more. It's sad, but it's true.

Noodle arm isn't going to get anything done. Remember...this is a rebuilding year. I can sense it already people are going to start flying off the handle.

Pennington really never had anything to talk about. Someone up the line there stated it perfectly: He had a couple of good games. Yay. So did Ray Lucas. Shit, I think Glen Foley may have had a couple of good games.

If he's floating them under pressure, he's hearing footsteps, which invariably means, he's done. He's never going to regain composure under pressure.

If we are going to suck anyway, throw the kid in there. Let him sit for a year to learn? How about let him play for a year, to learn and grow.

Who knows though. I've never had a good feeling about Schotty, and I have a bad feeling his true colors are going to be variants of his dad. That's NOT good.

Who the hell knows. We all knew it would be a lon gyear though, so ...start your engines and take a nap folks.

    GOOD:
when we were running the two minute drill at the end of the first half, everyone was getting to the line and lined up real quick, which was nice to see. Discipline first, then execution... then hopefully points.
I actually thought Thomas played well. He maintained contain, stayed with Tiki on htat one play, had a few nice sheds, but did get toasted by the FULLBACK?!?!
DRob played real well. A LOT of pressure, never got moved off the line and amde some plays himself.
    BAD:
Kassell repeatedly took the wrong shoulder. He'd be in the hole and let himself get turned AWAY from his help. Idiotic.
Barlow. Maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not sure why.
    Blitz pickup.
    UGLY:
Penalties in general. Taunting, false starts, illegal motion I mean that was just maddening.
Clemens' two minute drill. I was pleased with both his presence and his escapability, but goddamn our second team sucks. I never had any hope we'd do anything with that possession.
3rd and 1: right up the gut... with Blaylock? Who thought that one up.

I also have to say, I'm not real impressed with Schotty. All that motion and shifting. It's going to fuck us up more than it will confuse the defense. I mean, Cotchery starts in the backfield and motions out wide? Wow, a WR out wide, how daring!

Pretty impressive that you can tell this in 1 game where he played about 7-8 plays

HUH? Get real. He went in the 6th for a reason. At least you didn't say it was Washington.

Wait a second. a 49 yd FG hits the upright, and now he sucks. OK.

    This I agree with.

So what do you have to say about Garys remarks concerning CP?

What? Did you watch the game last night? When Pennington throws its like hes throwing a bowlling ball. The blitz really exposed Pennington's weak arm and lack of mobility. I am happy we have Clemens cause his arm and his feet dwarf the QB formerley known as Chad Pennington
