In preseason, Allen was completely lost in coverage. He wasn't within 5 yards of the players he was covering. He looked awful.
So with 1 week to go We have not addressed our punting situation . Maybe someone else can tell me if anyone worthy of consideration has been released by another team ? I don't know about you but I feel that our special teams / field position is going to suffer big time if Conley is our punter on opening day,,,,,,is there no one out there better than this guy ?
85inthe hall,,,,,that is kind of like someone saying last week that " Wayne Hunter is the RT ,he is good ,,,he'll be ok " we can agree to disagree but I do not think Conley is good or fine .
last year he was good at pinning team deep but his leg strength is a concern. it's baffling to me the jets havent even looked at matt mcbriar.
hilarious!!! guy looks like one of the worst punters i've ever seen. Hope I'm wrong b/c this team needs great punting to set up the D. w/o good consistent punting we wil be consistently placing our D at a disadvantage and perhaps impeding the Defense from having more flexibility. Conley looks pretty shakey to me.
Mike T said on 98.7 ESPN this mornign that clyde is very very fast Im no fan of kerly maybe this guy can be the real slot option later this season
Mike T says a lot of things. Kerley I'd an excellent slot guy, but he's got a hamstring and those trends to hang around for a while. This guy may be able to fill in, but I doubt he's better than Kerley in the slot. Out takes more than speed to be a slot man.
Kerley is fine in the slot. He is somewhat fast, but his real strength is his route running and ability to catch the ball in traffic. Being able to be a slot receiver takes more than just being fast.
The Jets over-rate physical attributes in their scouting and player evaluation. They do this consistently. Finding good players is a mix of attributes, results and the ability to capitalize on opportunity. Last year the Dolphins WR's were pretty bad. Gates couldn't get on the field much as a WR. I'm guessing the same thing will be true here. Both parts.
I was told Bobby Carpenter was released. He would be a decent backup for strongside ILB/OLB with OK speed. Sure, he didn't live up to 1st round status, but then who cares? Thoughts?
This seems like a reasonable possibility considering how the Jets target former first round picks shamelessly.
Clyde Gates blows. He couldn't make the Dolphins roster. He has speed and Sparano likes him and that's it. Think about it.
So what? Our only other KR is having both injury and press issues right now. What's a backup KR going to affect the greater scale of things?
we claim a wide receiver from miami, which desperately need wideouts? doesn't make any sense! cut this guy and schillins and get two guys from a place like 49ers or green bay ( james jones) that can actually catch, get open, and stay on the field. of course, that assumes we have a real qualified gm running the team in the first place.
except James Jones would likely cost us a 3rd/4th round pick and who knows what he would look like with Sanchez rather than Rodgers throwing to him.
