I gotta say, this is a good catch with the whole Eli/Sanchez vs Tebow/insert any QB here double standard thing.
My friend, if you believe that Tebow is regressing, then I submit that you really didn't see him passing very often last year. His mechanics have improved dramatically. Sure, there are still some flaws that can be worked on. He can shorten his motion even more and quicken his release. BUT, the important thing is that the ball is coming out of his hands nicely AND he's very consistent in his motion. His footwork when throwing in the pocket has improved as well. The only area that you could say that he has regressed would be throwing on the run / off his back foot. He used to be able to do this pretty well, but now he's having trouble with it. One can easily make the case that this is due to him not being completely used to his new mechanics and not having practiced those types of throws very much since fixing his mechanics this last off season. Now, please don't take those comments the wrong way. I AM NOT saying the Tebow is a finished product by any means. He still has things to work on and MUST get better at them. His mechanics ARE much better than last year, but they still need to improve. He is better at reading defenses, but he still needs to improve. He is better at seeing "NFL open" receivers, but he needs to improve. He definitely needs to improve on anticipation and throwing receivers open. Yep, lots of things that he needs to improve on, to be sure, but he is definitely throwing and playing the position much better than he did last year.
Like Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder, Colt McCoy . . . I don't think Gabbert and Ponder have quite started 16 games, but the point is that the ones you selected are considered to have been pretty decent, not cherry picking the slow starters like Gabbert.
Wasn't me that picked them, but yep, that's it exactly. Including those guys would skew the numbers downward
I guess what I've been trying to get at is those QBs have developed and progressed and been supported by their teams. That's the point. If teams saw something in Tebow as a QB, he would also have already received both interest and support from not only the Broncos, but also other teams. So even if you want to show that Tebow and Sanchez (and other QBs) had similar stats in their first 16 starts, it doesn't tell the whole story, which is that one QB (Sanchez) is believed to have a bright future (as evidenced by his team sticking with him, guaranteeing him money, and keeping him as the starter) and the other QB (Tebow) has a very uncertain future at the position.
All the more reason to be impressed with the numbers Tebow has put up despite The fact that he's had no organizational backing.
I think it stunted him a bit and will make his progression to a consistently great QB tougher. I would rather him sit even for 1/4 or 1/2 of a season. I think you can blame Mark for some of last year, but he probably doesn't fall into the top 3 and probably not top 5 reasons for the lack of success.
I can't remember. What completion percentage and QBR does he have? Cuz based on his other stats, he's getting screwed big time.
I might disagree as to the level of support he got in Denver, I have heard more positive comments regarding Tebow in the preseason from Sparano than I heard all last year from the Denver FO. Remember Sanchez still has the FO that traded up for him, so there is some vested interest in keeping him around. I think Sanchez is a decent QB with room for improvement, but I think if a new FO gets put in he gets ousted and I don't know how high his trade value would be(not that I think a new FO is needed, or Sanchez should be ousted). What do you think his value would have been had Peyton gone to the Jets? Not trying to be a dick just trying to take a look from a different angle As to other teams being interested, I think there were a few that showed at least some interest, but the following Tebow brings would be a nightmare for pretty much any team. I would rather be in the Jets position re: backups than the seahawks Like I said before I am real happy with how the jets have treated Tebow so far, I feel he has shown more progress mechanically this offfseason than in 2 years with the Broncos. Overall he doesnt look to be improved, but if you compare little things like how much faster his release time is, and where the ball is at during his windup and how tight a spiral he is throwing you can tell the coaches have been working with him. I always got the impression that Denver threw him out on the field to go get Luck. Here if he doesnt improve it is all on him, because I really feel the coaches have his best interest in mind.
Good synopsis of my thoughts too. The Jets seem interested in giving him every opportunity to get better. Last week's suckfest looked like Tebow being told to work on areas during games that don't matter. He won't get those sort of opportunities during regular season. He is a brillant running QB. Finds holes, patient, elusive as hell and strong as a bull. But he is so freaking uncomfortable under center. I'm not in the camp that believes a team should create a specific style of play strictly for Tebow's skillset. What if he goes down, who goes in? Tebow has to be successful within a style that allows backups to succeed. Team first. This is a make or break year for Tebow. He doesn't have to be completing 60%, but he has to show the ability to positively impact a team whenever he comes in. That's the only way teams in general (and the Jets in particular) will have the patience to let him develop (if he can develop).
I'm also pleased with the amount of support he's getting as a Jet. This organization is top notch. A great environment for him. I think most important is the supportive statements Rex and Tony have made towards him. Tebow doesn't let his frowny face show when he's down, but I think that it is very important to him. He's always been a "fish out of water" player, and it seems like the most important thing for him is that his coach believe in him. He'll run through a brick wall for you if he just knows you think he can do it.
There has been a night and day difference so far between the coaches in Denver and the coaches with the Jets with regards to how they speak about Tebow and the kind of verbal support they have given him when they speak with the media. Might have something to do with the fact that he beat both the Dolphins and the Jets last year.
He has every right to make any comment about Te(blow)me being a terrible qb just the sam as i have the right to say HE SUCKS!!!
Course he does. But y'all shouldn't act like you don't care about Tebow. 'cos you really, really do. Tebowphobes. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the original post, though. If you have any.
Actually, tebow didn't win the jets-broncos game. He teamed up with sanchez. I believe it was sanchez that threw the first td pass for the broncos, then tebow scored the second td on the last drive. Correct me if i am wrong, but all the credit shouldn't go to tebow for that one. Show some love for sanchez.
Tebow had a lot of luck past year. Luck is essential in the NFL. Sent from my VS840 4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
