Roster at 74. Unlucky Josh.... Cut so far... Damario Ambrose LB Stanley Arukwe WR Wes Kemp WR Dexter Jackson WR Raymond Webber WR Jeremy Stewart RB Josh Brown PK Josh Baker TE LeQuan Lewis CB Marcus Lott S Derek Chard LS Matt Hardison DT Terrence Campbell G Ryan Steed CB
Josh Baker's injury, while unfortunate, actually clears a lot up re the roster. Connor is safe as fullback and we now have an obvious space for a much needed blocking TE. Josh Brown, Ok he is not our kicker its still Folk. Other then them and Dexter Jackson, I haven't recognized any names cut so far.
when is the next cut down and what is the number? Is it next week and 54? If so, who are the other 20?
It never fails -- every year I anxiously await to read the cuts, and I end up reacting "Who are these guys?" I have to be reminded every year that there about 20 guys at camp with zero chance of making it, who barely play.
I have a question about the 20-some guys who are simply there as bodies with no real shot at actually making the final roster. Do they make a good amount of money for their time and effort? Are they even given real contracts or a signing bonus?
53 man roster is due by Friday night. If you look at the current roster, you could pretty well guess the next 20 cuts. Perhaps there will be two or so surprises. Certainly there will be a few recognizable names cut as previous backups at Linebacker, Oline and Dline.
I think they get room and board and a small weekly paycheck based upon years in the league. Contracts don't start paying out until the season starts unless there are workout bonuses etc. in their contract.
Kicker competition may well have come down to 2 kicks last night.. Folk drilled a picture perfect 46 yarder. Brown missed a 45 yarder (which was pushed back to 45 yds partly due to ST penalty committed by Ellis). Brown was better on Kickoffs all night, and all preaseason really. Was kind of hoping Brown would take the reigns, but if Folk had a good camp, guess you have to go with the hot hand.
One of the real intriguing battles will be between Tevaseau & Harrison. Tevaseau has been a dependable role playing NT...but Harrison has freakish explosion off the line & has a chance to be special. We'll see.
MTV has been around a few years. If he hasn't stuck by now, kind of hope Harrison gets that spot. With us playing more 4-3, better chance of one of these guys sticking.
Snacks (Harrison's nickname) is likely to the PS. I think both get cut though. Look at it from a sheer numbers perspective Coples, Wilkerson, Devito, Pouha, Ellis, Dixon, Richardson is 7 guys on the DL. Are we really going to keep more than that when Pace, BT, Maybin and McIntyre can all play DL and LB depending on the 3-4/4-3 formation?
I like Dixon but they should try to move him for a draft pick. He is clearly down the depth chart and as the above poster pointed out the OLB's all can play down for a few plays here and there. They might be able to fetch a 6th rounder for him.
Feel bad for Josh Baker. Tough way to go out. I thought he was a solid player. Like him as a FB/TE tweener. Thought he had ok hands too.
Personally I don't like MTV at all... the few times I've seen him in the game he got pushed around a lot! However Rex seems to like him so he might stick around with Harrison headed to the PS.
Oh well, IR this year and hopefully next year he's 100% healthy. Liked his hands much better than Connor...
