Aside from the personal issues that we have heard he has, what skills does he bring to the table. He is a big guy, like 6'1, 240....so I don't see him being the most shifty player.

In my opinion if we were going to find a new RB, we needed someone that can combine the skills Cedric has, and the skills Derrick has. Meaning we need a RB with size and speed. Not that I want a 235lb, 4.4 running superstar RB for a 4th rounder, but a guy that can be shifty and powerful. Cedric has the power and ability to stay on his feet after contact but he can't break away. Derrick can break away but is not that big.

So, does Barlow contain an impressive combination of these traits or is he just basically here to be here?

He was good on SF along with Hearst but to be honest with you I think we should have tried harder for duckett..

I can't imagine he will bring much to NYJ except maybe a chip on his shoulder towards SF, an NFC team.... but we will see... tonight hopefully..

At this point we just don't know. He is 235 lbs. with about 4.5 speed and good hands. Sounds like a Houston / Blaylock combo to me. But who knows at this point. I don't think we will know until after a few regular season games given the late arrival. Hopefully he will be hell on wheels for opponents, not just the PR office.

well if u look at the 3-way trade that happend w/ the skins broncos and falcons, its obvious that ducket wouldve costed a 3rd rounder (cuz it couldve been the jets in that trade and not the skins) and the jets obviously didnt want to give up a first day draft pick for duckett. i think barlow isnt gonna be amazing but im not expecting the jets to win the superbowl (or make the playoffs) this year anyway so why not give him a shot

It would've been a bad move to give up a 3rd rounder for Duckett. Duckett is probably better, although he has yet to prove it. Duckett is a free agent after this season, so it doesn't make sense to give up a first day pick for a one year fix in what is likely a down year.

    i agree completely.

this question that i'm about to ask doesnt have to do w/ the jets at all so feel free to ignore it...but why did the skins trade for duckett? it just seems like they're just throwin away draft picks for the hell of it. now they dont have their 2nd or 3rd rounder for the 2007 draft. i live in MD so i see and hear about the skins games all the time and there is nothin wrong with ledell betts or rock cartright. i just dont understand

He seems to be a pretty good pass catcher, which would lead me to believe he's probably got more agility than his measurables would have you think. Really haven't seen enough of him. I was hoping the official site woud put a video up like they did for Suggs, but they didn't.

um they're sayin alot...they're sayin that betts is injury prone which is bullshit and that cartright isnt that good.

but 2 weeks ago i was hearing that the skins had the most depth at RB in the league...the skins fans say anything that makes their team look better. all they do is bs everything

I don't really know much about him either, but from what I read on 49ers forums, he seems to be a good receiver and a solid blocker. Despite his size, he plays sorta soft and tries to dance around too much instead of mowing defenders over.

The team was looking for a somewhat-well-rounded back with some starting experience... the fact that they publicly shopped for these backup-caliber runningbacks makes me think that Curtis is either going to retire or isn't going to see the playing field anytime soon and they needed a decent stopgap to bolster the stable of unproven young players we already have at the position. It also tells me that the CS doesn't think much of Blaylock.

I think him being a solid blocker is a pretty big reason we went out and got him. With how fragile pennington is we need that extra insurance, so thats one thing he has over Houston and our other backs I guess we'll have to see though maybe he'll turn things around but I think a big reason he was brought on was help our QBs from getting murdered

I'm not sold on Barlow, never was, but we can't write him off as a POS after 1 week of practice and part of a pre-season game. Wow.
