I've watched football for a great many years now. I've always held to the tenant that football is a team sport. I get so sick of hearing about how a QB won a game single handedly, (didn't he need a receiver or a back to give the ball to, or an o-line to provide a hole should he decide to run it in). I could come up with many more examples. but I think you get the idea. It seemed to me that the purpose of the "pre season" was to accomplish things like; evaluate players, assess positions of need and depth, get players to refine/practice tweak situational play. Most of my adult life I've been told and come to believe that preseason play was nothing, and I mean NOTHING that would or could predict regular season play. Every year that goes by, I see more and more stock placed on the preseason. Whether it's arduous fans starved for football, people who always look for the negative, or those who simply want to argue any tiny point as though they have been Superbowl head coaches. For your consideration; Suppose the plan for pre-season REALLY is to show nothing but vanilla. Why would you want to prove that you could move the ball and score touchdowns , when the preseason wasn't even designed to prove that. Why oh why is there so much hysteria over the preseason , unless all the intelligent football fans have become drawn in to the sensationalism that the media creates, and helps fester? I for one will wait, I will wait to pass judgement on this team until the regular season has started to take shape. I have seen many a team's cindarella season begin at 1/4 to halfway through the regular season. I refuse to fret over the silliness of the media circus arena titled "The Preseason"....
Not scoring a TD through 3 preseason games still is not good. Anyway, the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason, then went 0-16 in the regular season a while back. It matters in certain ways, but it doesn't count.
But to answer your questions, its largely because of the internet and how much more television time is dedicated to the preseason. And many fans are impatient and uninformed.
My point exactly, thanx for the affirmation, I thought it was just me. Personally I see them having an average to above average"total campaign. However, that has to play out in it's own time..... Stay in the now....
The Jets are the team that everybody loves to hate. They've taken on the persona of the Yankees (minus all the championships). For a team this hated, with a coach who is brash and outspoken, and a celebrity backup QB who can't throw, to go 3 pre-season games without a TD is ESPNs wet dream.
But not just ESPN but all the major sports reporters, and I'd venture to say 1/2 to 3/4 of this board, I thought WE were a little more clever....
it may suck but i'm more relieved that we moved the ball between the 20's. I dont think scoring td's will be an issue imo.
I agree, this team has come to far to just think that they've done a 360 and are now totally inept and incapable of winning games, much less a touchdown. I say we edge the Bills in the first game with an all out effort that thrusts perspective into it's proper place!:buffaloblows:
