I like Ian Eagle. I'll never forget his "and Justin Miller has sent the Meadowlands into Sheer Pandamonium!" call.
I always remember him from his radio days doing the post-game, Jets Point After, during the Kotite years. "And today might just be a new low for this franchise"...we heard that almost every week.
Can we blame Hunter for this? No? Shit...then how about have Hunter replace Buttle. Boom. Two problems solved.
I posted the same thing two days ago: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=73472 It is inexcusable and if anyone finds Buttle's email address I'd like to send some mail to complain.
Buttle is the worst broadcaster in all of sports. Hes HORRENDOUS on teh pre game show too so how anyone can expect him to be a good color guy is laughable. However, Im pretty sure Ian is correct witht he MuNga pronunciation. Ddidnt Mauga himself say thats how its pronounced during Hard Knocks? Im almost positive I remmeber this correctly.
Buttle just fits the dumb jock mode only too well. Ian Eagle loves the sound of his own voice, by halftime, inhaling his own toupee glue has rendered him higher than Cheech and Chong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Mauga http://www.nevadawolfpack.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mauga_joshua00.html No N sound, at least according to these. Mauga's samoan, right? I'm not that familiar with the language, but I'm pretty sure they don't pronounce U as N.
Just FYI guys, I do recall an article from last season discussing a name change for Mauga or at least an explanation of the appropriate pronunciation, and that did include the "N." 99% sure "Munga" is actually correct. Here's Rex noting the change in this presser: http://thejetsblog.com/news/rex-ryan-press-conference-9-21-11/
http://hearnames.com/pronunciations/samoan-names/samoan-boy-names/mauga-m.html This is interesting. Sounds like MOANGA with a weak g sound.
like I tell everyone, switch the audio to SPANISH if its available on your TV. Doing this most of the time removes the commentary and all you hear is the field noise.
Doesn't that usually work on the FOX NY affiliate mostly? I know I switch the audio on FOX 5 when I watch a Yankees game or anything that has Joe Buck so I don't have to hear his voice.
That wasn't Ian-, that was Bob Wischeusen(sp?).. ..and I believe it was "absolute pandemonium" One of the best radio calls ever!
