How does this guy keep his job? From what I can recall, he was horrible last year and today he shanked two punts and almost shanked a third. Can we seriously not find a guy to compete with him? If Folk who wasn't even that bad last year is going to have competition, why is Conley exempt from having other competition because he surely would lose out to any half decent punter.
I've been saying this since the end of the season...hopefully we will bring someone in from another team when when teams start making their cuts down to 53.
He punted like an asshole. Any drunken fan in the parking lot could have sent one further than he did.
This. Hopefully Shane Lechler makes a nice recovery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwdTnE-iMi8&feature=player_embedded
Not a chance. Weatherford was one of the top punters in the league. Losing him was a big blow. He was integral in the Giants success. If connely goes to another team and they win a superbowl, it will definitely be despite him, so unless he goes to a powerhouse team, that ain't happening.
Punters have been Mike Westhoff's only weakness he hasn't been able to develop a good one for the Jets. It doesn't look like Conley is the answer.
I can't believe we ever got rid of Weatherford. Yeah he wasn't that good in the playoffs for us in 2010, but he was a stud in the reg. season. look at what he did with the giants last year. I still say he was probably one of the biggest reasons the Giants won that SB, he pinned the pats back every punt. I remember Westhoff having a problem with Steve but I don't remember the exact problem.
The Jets are a backwards team. They keep players that should be cut and they cut players that they should keep. I don't get it but if this season goes bad - and there is no indication it won't - Woody Johnson is gonna make some changes. It would'nt suprise me if he's looking for a new GM right now!
Have you seen the rest of our special teams recently? They were terrible all around last year. I like Westhoff but he needs to get back on his game..might not be his fault though; we might just not have the personnel.
Weatherford should have been kept. Tanny views punters as disposible, he sure looked disposible last night. Jets seem to have a problem fixing what is broke. Instead they think the problem will disappear. I hope it's not another long year.
I really don't understand how a team that emphasizes defense and ground and pound could completely ignore the punter position like this. I know he had an awful playoffs but I was still shocked that they chose to keep Folk over Weatherford, and then not bother finding a real replacement. Conley shouldn't be in the NFL.
Really hard to blame Westhoff for not developing a punter. Its Tanny's job to put an adequate one on the field for him to coach.
