NYDailyNews "WHO NOSE? Looking to add depth at nose tackle, the Jets brought in former Panthers DT Brentson Buckner this week. Buckner, 34, started every game last season for Carolina. The Jets also had shown interest in Grady Jackson, but he signed yesterday with the Falcons." Did not see anything on this on the board, I think this would be a good signing. He played with one of the best DLs in football last year and has the experience to help out. With him Ellis/VOH and Robertson splitting time at all three line positions along with some 4-3 sets, we could be a very versatile defense and keep fresh legs in there without missing a beat. What do you guys think?
Get me a fat body...What are the guy's stats? I hope that he has a little more to offer than Grady did, as Grady struck me as an overly fat guy with nothing else to really offer.
Brenston Buckner He is 6'2', 310 pds He is known more for his run stuffing technique rather then pass rushing ability. He only had one sack last year... here is the link http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3196
He used to be the most underrated defensive tackle in the game. He's great veteran leadership, toughness, and hustle, but his best days are behind him. -X-
I know he's on the downside of his career. Funny guy -- like his spots on NFL Network. Probably a good locker room guy, too. Could be a hold the fort type of player.
He's a great guy and would be a very nice addition. Even though he's at the end of his career he can still help our DL improve. I live in Charlotte and have met him and he's a very approachable player. He would also be a good leader in the locker room. In his final game played against Seattle last year he had 7 tackles.
This would be an awesome sign, I think what the Jets FO is doing is great...I love how they are building this team and I really think we are on track to a 7 or 8 win season. Just think of the playmakers on D (Vilma, Barton, Rhodes, Ellis, Dyson??) Then If Chad can be 80% of what he was the offense isnt in that bad of shape, Im excited for week one, which will be a win!
These things are very important, he does not need to be a dominant starter, and if he plays 20 snaps or so a game, I think he can be very effective. VOH is not young either, and Robertson has half a knee, so rotation and versatility are key. Could not hurt anyways.
versatility is a good point - he would be able to do a few more things than Grady would have been able to.
Something is wrong here - He has had NO interest from other teams? Why? Leadership and the depth he would provide any team in the NFL would be amazing - What don;'t we the public know about this guy? With that said if he is healthy, clean and in some resemblance of shape I hope we sign him.
He'd probably be in some kind of a d-line rotation...but he is a GREAT leader from what I've seen. He and Kimo could teach these young guys some good stuff.
Buckner's problem is that he's old, injury prone and probably asking for too much money. He'd be a great addition to the Jets though.
