and yet he was nearly fired twice and no they don't have an elite QB. They got hot at the right timew, had a ton of huge breaks but they haven't been a great team overall outside of getting hot when it matters most.

The Giants have better pass rushers, that's it but those pass rushers when healthy make the difference. Could you imagine Revis and this secondary playing w/ that pass rush? the Giants pass rush makes their average secondary look almost great.

I hope Coples shows us even a glimmer in the pre-season. He will be compared to these guys:

    * Patriots rookie pass rusher Chandler Jones made Saints Pro Bowl pick Jermon Bushrod look like a D-II prospect. Jones's big game didn't show up in the box score, but he forced two holdings, and pressures, and probably got all of New England very excited.

    * San Diego Chargers rookie OLB Melvin Ingram started at strong-side linebacker in his NFL debut Thursday, Aug. 9, against the Green Bay Packers. He was on the field for long stretches and played deep into the third quarter. Ingram made an impact quickly, as he was a disruptive force from the outside. He eventually drew double teams on passing downs. Ingram also played well in pass coverage. Head coach Norv Turner said Ingram played at a high level and will only become more explosive as he becomes more comfortable on the field.

Ingram caused the INT by Rodgers with his pressure, beating his man 1-on-1 and delivering a nice hit on A-Rod.

Because I don't think they are top 4. Not that hard to gather that from my post.

I also gave you the reasons why I thought they gave up the least amount of points. They didn't play any other really good offenses other than the Pats.

That's my opinion. I think they'll go down even more this year.

I think Ingram is gonna play with a chip on his shoulder after listening to all that bullshit about his arms being too short prior to the draft.

As far as Jones goes, it's still early. I don't watch enough college football to really gage whether guys are gonn be good or not, and alot of the "experts" think he's a project. But Mike Mayock, who I respect, loved the guy coming out of college, so that made me feel better about the pick.

So they still gave up 35 points to the Ravens! And that was when their D was fresh, and didn't have the beat down and injured excuse.

    BTW, fuck the Steelers!

As a Pats fan I'm obviously pretty excited about Jones, I'll certainly be watching the Jets game tonight as close as I can since Coples-Jones seems to be the most closely compared prospects in the draft ...or maybe i'm telling myself that because this and patsfans are the only 2 boards I read.

That's not counting his back to back forced holding calls on Bushrod, you could argue one of the holds shouldn't have been called, but it was close enough to get a flag, the other hold Bushrod had to tackle Jones to keep him off the QB.

This is probably what most will be comparing Coples to as he plays tonight, so the bar is set for him. I'm looking forward to seeing this game, I hope he gets a comparable number of snaps so we can start the debate about who made the better choice. ...and it's still the first pre-season game, this debate could go on for awhile.

You think maybe it could go on for more than the first pre-season game? Jones looked really good last night but let's not put him in Canton just yet.

If I were a Pats fan I'd be very concerned about who is replacing Matt Light.

All he said is he was excited by what he saw? That your new role on here? troll around and shit on anything positive said about the Pats by a Pats fan?

    I'm trolling?

Holy shit. We have Pats fans here on our Jets site giving there negative opinion of the Jets every day. I make a comment about not putting a Pats rookie in canton yet after one preseason game and I'm trolling.

I apologize for hurting your feelings. The Jones hype seems a bit over the top after one preseason game IMO.

Did you read the part of my post where I specifically state "Its only one preseason game"?

I don't recall putting him in Canton, either, but I have read quite a bit about the Jets best defensive line in football thanks to Coples, which I find laughable about a guy who, by reports from TC, is behind where they want him and has still yet to play a snap.

Jones has had nothing but good press about him in TC and has made the first step to back that up.

Before you assume I'm putting someone in Canton you should go scan a few threads on this board.

We've got Stephen "Moss-Johnson" Hill, Chaz Schillens and his revived career into a legitimate receiver before he's played a snap this season, the next best slot receiver in Kerley, etc.

The Jets had a great D in 09, that's the last time the Jets had a great D. Did you watch the playoffs last year?

Jets 2010 D was also good, but 11 while still one of the better D's in the league, wasn't comparable to 09 or 10 in my opinion.

They're getting younger on the line but still need to address LB's and S soon, they drafted 2 safeties or something like that, no? I think you'll see a 1st or 2nd spent on LB/S next season for them.

lol if anyone has declared Stephen Hill that good id love to see it.

All ill say about our receiving corp is I expect them to be a tremendous improvement over last year where we had an old ass man in Plax Kerley hurt, and no fricken depth.

My biggest issue with Jones is he went up against a guy coming off of major surgery and isnt even complaining about his contract (hes supposedly a top LT making pennies this year) which makes me think somethings up with his injury.

None the less Jones was far better than I had expected, and I look forward to seeing him get more snaps. Hopefully where he regresses quite a bit.

The last time the Jets had a really great D on the field was game 6 in 2009 before Jenkins went down. The 2009 defense as a whole was strong after that but not great and overly reliant on the blitzes, Revis, Strickland and company.

As soon as Strickland went down against the Colts the game was essentially over.

A great 3-4 defense starts at the nose and with the linebackers. If those guys aren't all very strong you don't have a great 3-4. With Jenkins on the nose and the 4 linebackers they had, all in their prime still in 2009, the Jets were there for a brief period of time.

    1) This is a Jets fan site, obviously we are biased towards positive Jets opinions and negative Pats opinions. I'm sure you've figured that out by now.

    2) Please show me where you've read "quite a bit" about the Jets having the best d-line in football. I'd be surprised if you could find a single post.

    3) Sorry if I am already sick of the constant slurping of Jones' performance last night. It's been less than 24 hours and I feel like I'm getting bombarded with discussion about how good he was. And ftr, I watched and agree he looked good.

You basically repeated the last sentence of the guy's post, then acted like you were smarter than him for saying it. Maybe you are just a little bit oversensitive about this topic?

You'll have to show me where I repeated the last sentence of his post and acted like I was smarter? I honestly don't see that.

Jones looked a lot better than I expected him to last night. It was about a quarter of preseason football. I've seen many players look great in preseason and never amount to anything on the field.

The last part of his post, and the first part of your response. Are these somehow saying something different?
