so im a douche because i pointed out that you were incorrect in your assessment that tone "NEEDS a big, fast, deep threat to 'take the top off' the defense" ... way to deflect and its crazy that you know that holmes is not capable of "being the 'guy' in this offense" when youve never seen him play in this offense hes not dre, megatron, or fitz, but he doesnt get paid like them either and if you think nicks, dez, reggie, jennings or colston are #1s by themselves then you need to smack yourself ... swap tone for any of those dudes last year and our offense is just as shitty
Yes, yes, yes, Holmes can be quite a douche bag, but like Cro, he is our douche. He is not a #1, but he is our best receiver at this point. Like others said, the only way to really get him working at his best is by giving him a deep threat, so he can work the slot. I don't consider your #1 your best receiver. Look at Welker, he is not a #1, but he is NE best receiver. When Braylon was here, I considered him to be or #1, but Holmes is more talented and more dynamic. It's ask about your own perception of things.
he is, i love his game, but he plays in a loaded offense ... i happen to think that tone would put up big numbers too on a team like green bay
Homes is not even comparable to Nicks, Jennings, or Colston. Probably Dez too. All of those guys can beat double teams. Holmes cannot. AT ALL! That's why he functions best on a team with multiple threats.
WRs always do better in pairs, and trios are even better. It helps to have a QB who can hit 60+% of his passes and isn't afraid to throw downfield, too.
please, its easy to say that they can beat double teams ... the fact is that those dudes are rarely double teamed, so they dont
Get's to the age old argument of "what does #1 receiver mean". Many see it as an actual position with certain characteristics. Speedy big guy who can take the top off of defenses. Who can battle and beat double coverage, yada, yada, yada. In that sense, Tone wouldn't be a #1. Others see #1 as the receiver who is most targeted, or is the biggest overall threat. That's how you'd get Welker as a #1, or Tone.
Holmes is the garbage man. I have a long running list of things that I don't like about him. His one and only redeeming quality is the highlight reel catch he makes 5-10x a year. I have no idea, at all, how Rex went about his decision making when naming Holmes captain last year. 1) Quit on his team 2) Does not block for shit 3) Takes plays off 4) Gets knocked on his ass before even getting into a route 5) Drops passes 6) Fumbles 7) calls out teammates to the media 8) Never gets up field 9) Never has a 100yd game 10) Never catches 10 passes I lived in Pittsburgh when Holmes had one of his best seasons ever. I was so sold when I heard he was coming to New York, for a fifth?? only a fifth? what a steal! Holmes immature attitude, lack of professionalism and lazy demeanor are astonishing. I have pretty much given up all hope on him ever being a legitimate production guy/consistent play maker on our offense. I believe Holmes signing with the New York Jets and extension could be the biggest mistake of the Rex/Tanny era. If we were able to go back in time I would give every nickle that was guaranteed to Holmes to #24 a true baller. Holmes has the ability to tear this entire offense a part. Hopefully, St. Tebow will intervene. And maybe Holmes will grow up a little bit, gain some humility and become humble, hungry, passionate player for the New York Jets. That is the kind of Holmes we could really use on this football team.
It could be that, or it could be Holmes was upset with having to deal with an awful quarterback and shitty OC all of last season, which resulted in his corresponding disgruntled attitude and dip in production.
I don't think he was ever angry at Mark. None of his problems were directed towards him. I thought it was all towards Schotty and the O line because passing plays had 0 time to develop. I could be wrong but I remember when he had his tiff at the Dolphins game it was at Hunter and didn't he have negative comments towards Moore at one point.
