Piece summarizing our WR group. http://nyjetsuniverse.wordpress.com/2012/08/03/positional-breakdown-wide-receiver/
good breakdown. key guys to watch are Chaz and Jordan White in my opinion. Chaz staying healthy and putting his potential together would equate to a huge steal for the Jets at a much needed position. It would give Hill time to ease in, while giving the Jets a lot of options. White i feel could surprise. He has a lot of college experience, and is a very polished route runner. I can def seem him challenging Kerley. Depth and competition is something the Jets need more of. Too many guys feeling entitled to their position, and not enough plan B's in the event of injury. So i'm pulling for both these guys, which could make all the difference in this WR core.
C'mon dude... Any civil, (and decently) well-informed football fan should be welcomed by TGGers to discuss anything NFL-related or Jets-related... You don't have to be a dick to him just because he doesn't root for the Jets. It just comes across as jealous animosity (which is the last thing that Jets fans should be giving to Bills fans, given the Bills' general suckiness at the game of football)
Its looks to me like all the potential is there for the Jets and it is going to just come down to who steps up...they may not all be house hold names but you can't say that the team hasn't focused on getting bigger faster and younger... if this does work out tanny is going to look pretty good... Im curious to see what Chaz has to offer I really like Kerley last year
yuppp, i had the same thought when reading it. We traded up to #43 (not 44) with the Seahawks... Regardless though, a good writeup on the WRs on the roster and what we can expect from them. Holmes - Hill - Schillens - Kerley - Turner has some potential to be a nice group
I don't remember where I read, but I saw that the Jets were effortlessly trying to trade up into the Rams #33 pick. They didn't name the potential target but I'd have to believe it was between Hill and Brian Quick. I'm glad they ended up playing the waiting game and snagging Hill where they did. He's gona be a serious beast in a couple years once he polishes his skills.
big and fast is nice... but what really matters is production. the raiders have been drafting big fast wideouts for a decade now(in fact, thats where schilens came from) and they have had a treadmill of disappointment. we need guys who can get open and catch the ball. not just guys who can get on rides at an amusement park and win at wind sprints. id have loved if we brought in a player who has started before in the NFL to go alongside holmes until one of these young guys snatches the reigns
It's a decent article that avoids distilling the facts into the simplest form: the Jets WR's are the weakest unit on the team this year and the most likely point of failure for the Jets. Given what happened last year and the QB involved this is extraordinary incompetence on the part of the Jets and is likely to lead to ruin.
A little veteran insurance would be nice, Plax back, or Mark Clayton being an ex Raven Rex should know his abilities. Not saying they are number 2's , but in the heat of battle you want guys who have been there for those clutch moments
I don't want to sound redundant but I would have preferred if the Jets signed Braylon instead. Schillens is still a question. At least with Braylon you knew what you were getting. The guy I'm watching in the receiving Corp is Patrick Turner, he stepped up whenever he was given a chance.
lol someone should ban the word "Braylon" and "Edwards" on this board. I actually agree with you, but it's no use talking about it now. He was signed by the Seagulls...
Lol jets fans love him. But I think he would have been a better stop gap at the number 2 receiver spot until Hill was ready.
If this is true I would have to assume Upshaw was an option. But I'm certainly happy with getting Hill.
