How nice to see that Hernandez feels it's perfectly okay to ignore overwhelming evidence that the stolen base attempt is a generally ineffective decision because he "disagrees" with Moneyball. One example where someone scores from second on a single after stealing second doesn't invalidate evidence from thousands of plays, Keith.

By the way, a leadoff walk is no worse than a leadoff single, Keith, despite what you believe.

I would take the leadoff base on balls if I had a choice because more often than not there are more pitches thrown when a guy walks a batter than when he allows a base hit.

I've looked at the data at the level of individual at bats using retrosheet. There is no evidence that a team scores more runs after a leadoff walk than after a leadoff single, and obviously leadoff extra-base hits are worse than leadoff walks. The myth about leadoff walks comes from the same place as people looking at batting average rather than on-base percentage - people viewing walks as only evidence of bad pitching, rather than also reflecting good hitting.

I meant as to how it builds up the pitcher's pitch count and gets the pitcher's manager more nervous.

I like OBP more than AVG, but try convincing fantasy competitors to put OBP in leagues instead of AVG. It is a tough thing to do. Some people are so set in their way of thinking.

Mets would rather trade Turner than Hairston imo as they would prob give Hairston 2 year deal in off season but they may get a silly offer for Hairston from a play off bound team hunting the pennant.

Parnell is so frustrating..he has all the skills and a heater that should make him elite but his location at times is frightening.

Parnell is like Farnsworth. They both can throw hard and they both fuckin' suck.

I was going to be surprised if they made a trade. They don't have anybody with much value. Dickey had value but it would be silly to trade him.

My God, Wright is such a joke right now. And of course shoddy defense once again sabotages a strong performance by the starting pitcher.

Three straight innings with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs and the Mets don't score a single run. Amazing. Now Parnell (who has blown 5 of 8 save opportunities this year) tries to protect a 2-1 lead. Gulp.

So the Mets didn't do anything to improve the team whatsoever at the deadline?

Sandy better have a really good explanation for this bullshit.

This is all you can do?

Are you capable of mentioning specific players that they should have traded for?

Two absolutely pathetic defensive plays allow the Padres to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th against Dickey.
