Thank you for posting this, and I'm glad the writer wrote this. I have been saying this for a few weeks now with some friends of mine that the Jets will set the trend back to a more balanced attack by attacking the smaller defenses with a power running game.

It's only a "trend" if it becomes successful, and it seems unlikely that the Jets have the personnel to be a successful run-first team.
    • The Jets' OL is mediocre at this point with Hunter's poor play likely to negate the good play of several of his line-mates in the run game.
    • The Jets lack a pass blocking TE.
    • The Jets need a starting caliber RB who can regularly make some yards on his own, and that's NOT Shonn Greene. He'd have difficulty even making several teams, and wouldn't start on most. Ganaway is a sixth round rookie, and who's Conner? Obviously both McKnight and Powell are forgettable.
    • The Jets need a decent downfield passing attack to keep defenses from regularly putting 8 in the box. Sanchez relied too much on the short game last season, and the WRs he has this year are big ??? with the exception of Holmes.

You're severely underrating Shonn Greene. The idea that Greene isn't that good is a popular internet theme that isn't based in any form of fact. Simply casual observation from fans lacking perspective on the bigger picture.

The Jets are fine with Greene.

The rest of your points are very fair.

    here's a fact on Greene.

In 2011 was tackled for a loss on only 16 of 253 carries last season, which is the 2nd best ratio among players with 100 carries minimum.

Worry about your own franchise first, dumbass.

Bills haven't reached the post-season in the past decade. That's a trend too, don't you think?

And they lack a true, franchise QB too while at it. Make no mistake about it - you are getting nowhere with that backup QB starting for ya.

Bills fans are being prematurely belligerent....probably trying to get it in before the reality of the season sets in.

    Opinion (from Rotoword):
    Facts:
    • Greene finished with the 2nd most yards in the AFCE, 8th in the AFC, and 13th in the NFL. He would finished one spot lower in all those categories if Fred Jackson had stayed healthy. Greene got all of 120 more yards than Jackson with 80 more carries in 6 more games.
    • Greene was ranked 3rd in yards/per game in the AFCE, 9th in the AFC, and 19th in the NFL.
    • His 4.2 yards per carry ranked 6th in the AFCE, 31st in the AFC and 55th in the NFL.
    • Greene's longest run was 31 yards. That was 5th best in the AFCE, 23rd best in the AFC, and 56th in the NFL (that's only including RBs no QBs or WRs).
    • Greene was ranked 4th in the AFCE, 15th in the AFC, and 30th in the NFL with 4 runs. Greene had no runs of 40+ yards, but 3 AFCE RBs did, and 23 AFC backs did, and 41 total throughout the NFL got 40+ yards at least once.
    • In the percentage of rushes that resulted in first downs, Greene had 18.2% which put him at 5th in the AFCE, 23rd in the AFL, and 56th in the NFL among RBs who had 100+ carries.

Those aren't particularly impressive stats for a RB who is supposed to lead a ground and pound attack.

None of that accounts for the putrid discipline our offensive line displayed, the absolutely indept playcalling and scheming of our former coordinator, Mangold's injury early on which basically imploded the entire offense, and the fact that the Jets were essentially trying to be a "running team" that passed more than it ran.

The whole entire offensive philosophy from the Jets last year was shit.

I'm not claiming that Greene is a top running back but I feel absolutely comfortable having him as the starter on this team.

Of all the stats you just mentioned which do not take into account the gameplan and overall play calling which dictate almost everything above do you care to comment on this stat? The only one that Greene pretty much controls on his own and accomplished despite his O-Line last year?

In 2011 was tackled for a loss on only 16 of 253 carries last season, which is the 2nd best ratio among players with 100 carries minimum.

    I bet not.

I don't think he's terrible but just watching him he is definitely not great. He will probably get the job done but if he was replaced I sure wouldn't be sad about it.

you should have stopped after the second bullet.
Oline is a question, primarily due to the concerns at RT and overall depth. The other 4 starters on the line are pretty good (3 made the pro bowl).
Blocking TE is a glaring need in my opinion, and hopefully they'll pull one off the scrap heap during cuts.

Aftern that, you are just reaching. Shonn Greene is a very good fit for what the Jets want to do. Don't buy the media hype, the guy is a bruiser and can run any gap. Kind of sucks at receiving, but that's not what he's paid for.

Catt Country, go talk about the Bills. You clearly don't belong here. Greene has improved each year here, and I'll be worried when he stops. It's utterly hilarious how people nitpick certain thing to project negativity on this team. Get over yourself. Your team is far worse.

How many times will it have to be pointed out to the Bills troll that last year was not a run-oriented offense? He keeps pointing to 2011, when he should probably look at 2009, 2010. Stupid fuckin troll.

The belief that Greene sucks comes from fantasy football players just because he doesn't put up flashy numbers week-in and week-out. FACT

We have no shot at beating the Pats or Bills this year. Our team is a joke.

    We have two terrible QB's.

A head coach that admitted to losing his locker room and not paying attention to the O side of the ball.

A o-line that is shaky at best.

A middle of the pack RB.

No WR's that put fear in any D's.

Our GM over spends for everyone and drafts bust.

I think were looking at a 4th place finish this year.
