Duckett, Lelie moving Duckett to Skins, Lelie to Atlanta, pick to Denver. Pretty interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2558101 ATLANTA -- Filling their need for a No. 3 wide receiver, the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday night acquired disgruntled Denver Broncos veteran Ashley Lelie in a three-team trade, ESPN.com has learned. The Falcons sent former first-round tailback T.J. Duckett to the Washington Redskins and the Broncos will receive an undisclosed draft choice in the deal. The Falcons have been shopping Duckett in trade talks much of the offseason. Atlanta's need for a No. 3 wideout was heightened when veteran Brian Finneran suffered a season-ending knee injury early in training camp. Denver has been attempting to find a trade partner for Lelie, who did not participate in any offseason drills and had not reported to training camp. The Broncos had offered Lelie to the Chicago Bears, but the two teams could not reach a deal. Lelie had indicated he wanted to be a No. 1 receiver, but he didn't think he'd receive that chance in Denver with Rod Smith coming off a Pro Bowl season and the Broncos acquiring Javon Walker on draft day. At the end of July, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan had said: "Guys want players who are going to come in here and want to be part of the team and want to work hard to be part of the team. If you don't want to be part of the team, then don't be part of the team. Just keep doing what you're doing and hold out."
3 Team Trade ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli is reporting that the Falcons, Redskins, and Broncos have agreed to a three-way trade that principally sends Falcons RB T.J. Duckett to the Redskins. Here is a breakdown of who get what: The Redskins get Falcons RB T.J. Duckett The Falcons get WR Ashley Lelie from Denver The Broncos get an undisclosed draft pick (from team unknown at this point)
The unknown team has to be the Redskins, or else they get Duckett for nothing. I'm curious why they did this. Is Portis' injury more than it's made out to be?
I'm picking fourth in my fantasy draft tomorrow and all set to take Portis. I'll be damned if Danny Boy isn't fucking with a Jet fan again.
That'd suck if Portis is out for an extended time. Hate to see guys go down in the preseason. On the flipside, I have Duckett on my fantasy team, so him starting would be a plus for me.
"Two players who have long rumored to be heading elsewhere were finally traded Tuesday night. The Washington Redskins have traded a third-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for running back T.J. Duckett. The Falcons then turned around and traded a third-rounder choice to Denver for wide receiver Ashley Lelie. Lelie has been trying to get out of Denver for the past year as his role was given to newcomer Javon Walker. Duckett was made expendable as the Falcons had fallen in love with draft pick Jerious Norwood. Duckett gives the Falcons insurance in case Clinton Portis' shoulder injury is serious. Lelie replenishes the Falcons' receiving core, which was thinned by a knee injury to Brian Finneran went down in the first week of camp." So I guess the Falcons aren't looking at mac anymore.
Broncos | Team could receive two first-day draft picks for Lelie Tue, 22 Aug 2006 19:38:03 -0700 Updating previous reports, Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos could receive two first-day draft picks from the Washington Redskins in the three-team trade involving former Broncos WR Ashley Lelie. If the Redskins finish with a worse record than the Broncos in 2006, Denver would receive the Redskins' first- and third-round picks. If the Redskins finish with a better record than the Broncos, Denver would receive the Redskins' third- and fourth-round picks.
Damn, why don't we have teams giving us loads of draft choices for mediocre players? Denver always seems to stack up those early picks.
I heard it was a third before, and if that is true then I think I'd rather have Duckett for a 3rd than Barlow for a 4th, because I think Duckett has more potential, but it's no big deal because I liked the Barlow trade too. I think the Redskins are crazy for doing the deal with the Broncos, if that is how it is going to work, because the Broncos are going to be pretty good next year most likely and they've got a good shot to have a better record than the 'Skins...at which point the Redskins will be left without a draft class again.
They need to share the wealth and let other teams rip off the Skins. To be fair, we did screw the Redskins in a draft day trade this year...
I don't understand that whole condition at all. Washington is foolish for doing that. Denver is probably going to have a better record. I don't understand the premise. Anyway, even if Denver only gets 3rd and 4th rounders, they still made out well here. If they get 1st and 3rd, it's highway robbery all over again.
Wherever that Broncos get a 1st rd. pick idea is from, they must be high. No way the Skins would give up a 1st...
At what point are you people going to learn that Daniel Snyder knows nothing of the value of a draft pick? It's been like 7 or 8 years now, hasn't it?
Yep. The Redskins have been tossing away draft picks willy-nilly for veterans ever since Snyder took over. Washington's draft in 2007: 2nd- traded to Jets (draft day trade) 3rd- traded to Broncos 4th- traded to 49ers (Lloyd trade)
of course. They trade their picks away every year. I'm talking about the 2007 draft. They've already traded away 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and it's only August. 2006, their 1st went to Denver in the foolish Jason Campbell trade, their 2nd went to us in their trade-up, their 3rd went to SF in the Brandon Lloyd trade, their 4th went to Denver as part of the Campbell trade, etc.
