At least they're trying do get something done at RT. I doubt he can stay healthy but I appreciate the effort to get WFH the fuck off the field.
This is all based on Tanny's faith in our medical staff. Hopefully they are as good as he thinks they are at evaluating these things, because Schilens, Jordan White, Landry, and now Otah now all hinge on just how accurate these guys are when they say "he can play."
We all wanted a new RT im sure the NYJETS did there due dilligence when acquiring him. In Rex and Tanne WE TRUST....
I hope to god he can stay healthy. He is a huge upgrade over Wayne Hunter. If he does miss some games this year at least Hunter might be more fresh.
WFH as a backup doesn't scare me. Come for a few games this season, don't just completely implode, all is well.
The jets have answered all of their offseason holes with sketchy solutions. The health of Landry and Otah, banking on the potentials of Coples and Hill. No completely legitimate solutions anywhere. I suppose nothing in the nfl is ever sure fire, but I think only half of our investments will hold up this year.
Sticking WFH out there is quite a sketchy scenario too. At least they're trying here. I doubt this one pans out, but if it does it's a huge upgrade.
Otah, IF healthy will start at RT and serve as a major upgrade. Obviously we think he's healthy. Is his $ even guaranteed?
I think I read 1.4 million is guaranteed. I'll be shocked if he plays a full season but I hope he can give us 10 games and hopefully be healthy down the stretch and at the start of the season. Edit: Just read that it is not guaranteed at all.
Hes set to make barely over 1 million on the final year of his rookie contract. The Panthers initially gave him a huge signing bonus, so im pretty sure we pay just the 1mill and change.
Reading over at a Panthers board, the problem with Otah has been more work ethic issues than the actual injuries which normally is scary but he's at a contract year, has a new change of scenery and of course is out there to prove the Panthers/Ron Rivera wrong. Talent wise, its not close between Otah and Hunter.....its just if Otah is fully committed in putting the work. I think Rex Ryan and specficically Sparano will light a fire in him and Otah will enjoy being apart of this team. Brandon Moore is a no-nonsense RG who will be on Otah for any lazyness. Moore's underrated in that aspect, just Moore can't teach talent. He's a great run opener when right.....Tebow will enjoy him I suppose and will be more often than not running behind him and Moore. The lone thing now you have to wonder is if Vlad Ducasse makes it out of preseason with a job. As much as this is alarming about Wayne Hunter.....Duccasse should be worried mightily about this. It'll be a fight between he and Robbie Griffin for a spot as the other tackle backup.
Why is it obvious we think he's healthy? I'm guessing this is how this went down: 1) Panthers decide they're going to cut ties with Otah because he isn't even ready for training camp after having missed all but four games over the past 2 years due to injury. 2) Before they outright cut him they send out a notice to all teams that he's on the trade block. 3) Tanny responds with the best offer which is likely a late conditional pick (5th or 6th rounder) based on playing time. 4) Panthers unload the player they were about to cut and rejoice that they may get something out of it.
Very good player when healthy as many have mentioned. His knees are worrisome though. He is in a contract year, so this may just be a one and done deal. Even if he leaves after the season, a conditional draft pick isn't the worst thing in the world.
