He just said it all best that the Ny media twist everything the Jets say. He said they twisted Holmes words last week and now about using Tebow in the red zone. Like Dukes said Sanchez is the Jets starter and Tebow is the back up. He will be put Tebow in when they think it best for the Jets game plan.
I think this is the key. Anyone actually clued into the Jets situation can figure it out, so you know the media guys who are more connected than we are can too. However, controversy sells papers, and selling papers equals job security and salary bonuses. So they do what they do because headlines that scream gloom and doom sell way more than froo-froo headlines that talk about good stories. Every once in a while a true good-story piece sells like gold because everybody claims to be tired of the bullshit, and they probably are, but they still pick up the crazy headlines and read the bullshit. Too many great pieces leads to people not giving enough of a fuck to pay for papers.
:drunk: This reminds me of when S. Holmes was on the NFL network and EVERY announcer said that T-Bow would be the starter by week 3 and they tried SOOO hard to make Santino say something to that effect. Lets be honest, EVERY reporter HATES the Jets. Why... Maybe their wives make them wear Namath jerseys and scream "Oh Joe!!!" Whenever they do it. We are the red haired step child and until we totally dominate, we will be trashed by the media.
Even though I hate Jamie Dukes 99.9% of the time, this is that 0.1% that I don't. Glad someone's trying to shed some TRUE clairity on the siuation.
Jamie Dukes is one of the better analysts on any network, and he's not a drone. I remember wn he had his own show on NFLN. Where he dressed like a parliament member with the whig nd everything he's pretty funny
This is only true as far as it goes. Why does the media do what you describe? As you say, because it sells, which basically means that is what the market, the public, wants. Even here among Jet fans, stories that are negative and, with some small measure of skepticism, should be seen as inaccurate and designed to provoke, still produce discussion, links are included to sites that Jet fans here then hit, and it all feeds into the kind of media attention we say we really don't want to see. It's like blaming lawyers for having shitty clients that give the go ahead for obtuse or even baseless legal claims. It's really the public.
So what you're saying is that Jets fans want negativity about our team, reporters know it & make negative stories to get hits? Are you implying that an average Jets fan would rather read a negative story than a positive one? It's gotta be that, because otherwise the clowns would write more balanced articles. By this logic, coverage of NE is positive because their fans would not read anything negative. It also means that baseball writers are much dumber than their football counterparts because they actually write a lot negative articles about Red Sox, while coverage of Pats wisely avoids any criticism. Or perhaps Pats and Red Sox are separate fanbases, that would explain a lot. Assuming Red Sox nation, like Jets, thrives on negativity. Fans of any team will greedily read everything written about their team -- good, bad, smart, stupid, doesn't matter. Let's say Cimini wrote a series of articles that DR gave every indication that he is planning to honor his contract, and how great it is for a professional athlete to stick to the... and to show the example of... etc, etc. I guarantee Cimini would've gotten same number of hits as with the bullshit he usually puts out. No, blaming fans who read everything written about their team for the negativity is like saying woman's provocative outfit is the reason for rape. The reason for the negative coverage is simple: most of the clowns don't like Jets. What the cause of this I have no clue, my guess would be dislike of Rex, although I really like Namath's jersey on hubby in bed idea from earlier in this thread. But whatever it is, don't blame readers for the tone of the coverage.
I don't think you read my post very well. I first blamed the public in general, and then said even some Jet fans here. You guys have to understand the Jets share the NY market with the Giants. The public here not only includes people with a passing interest in football, or fans of teams outside the area (with all the transplants NYC has more of them than the average city, too). It has Giant fans, and Giant fans love to read about the Jets and in particular lots of Giant fans love to read stories that make the Jets look bad. In other words the media are filling a "need" presented by the market. My point about even some Jet fans is that even some Jet fans, not all Jet fans, contribute to all this by talking about negative stories and going to links and that sort of thing. I never said that was the main reason, just that even some unwitting Jet fans contribute to the nonsense.
I'm assuming this is the segment you were referring to. Worth a watch. http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-york-jets/09000d5d82aadf7d/Defining-the-Jets-game-plan-for-Tim-Tebow
Sure, I understand. What you are saying is perfectly applicable to not sports-specific media, like sports section of ABC, NBS, WB, etc. nightly news. They would be looking for a juicy story that appeals to as many viewers as possible. Most of the viewers are not Jets fans, so the weird sells. I get it. But we are not talking about this type of "one fits all" attention grabbers. Ciminis of the world are beat writer, specifically for Jets, in his case. They are supposed to be above 1-for-all, they are supposed to be fact-diggers. Think back to my "Revis shows no indication of holding out" example. Can you imagine how it can be span?! Just compare & contrast with examples of other players holding out and put the man on the high mountain for honoring the contract, "how unique it is in today's instant gratification society, blah, blah, blah". Also stretching the truth, of course, but not negative & actually based on facts. The point is the beat writers can be a bit of sensationalism and still be positive, but they choose not to.
Well, my previous point was a general one, but as concerns Cimini I agree he seems to be a hack with no real integrity, and may well by this point for whatever reason has decided he gets something out of distorting stories in a way that puts the Jets in a bad light. Thankfully he's only one person.
It's also post-free agency, pre-training camp. Not much to talk about, so a note like this becomes a fairly big story.
Been saying this for years. Stopped tuning in to 660 for Francesa's crap, stopped clicking on anything ESPN/Cimini related, and stopped going to PFT. I will NOT give them the web page hits. If anyone wants fair Jets reporting, Vrentas or Manish. Both report facts, not fiction.
I like Jamie, but he may not be correct on this. There is no reason why the NYJ should make some big announcement about how TT is going to be used. What if plans change? What if Sanchez sucks or is injured? Why should the NYJ announce how any player will or won't be utilized? That would be stupid to do, Lombardi, Parcells, Shula, Bellichik or any other great HC would NEVER do such a dumb thing.
