In today's NFL, teams utilize the pass to open up the running game, not the other way around anymore. It's pretty hard to have an effective running game when teams are always stacking the box against the Jets. The reason they do that is because they have no fear of Sanchez beating them with the pass. So say that Sanchez was not responsible for the Jets poor running game is totally false.
Thats what I was hoping for when he was first brought in but I thought I read a couple articles on how Tebow wants to be a QB so he doesn't want to play HB. I wish he would though he is more of a bruiser then Greene, takes contact better then Greene and can keep moving his feet after the hit, and runs basically the same 40 as Greene. If we could get Tebow to commit to playing HB by saying you will get a lot more touches then just WC he could be a huge difference maker in this offense. Could make that 4th round pick look like a steal.
Come on guys Sanchez was having a decent year until the wheel s fell the last three games. he threw Seven of his 18 picks in the last three games. That shows there was likely an injury. the first seven games he did not have QB rating lower than 85 if take away the atrocity that the baltimore game was. He also threw for over 300 yds twice in that span. in the last nine games he had qb rating of in the sixties or lower five times. The question to ask is what happened from the first seven games to the last nine? in the first seven games he had 12 tds and 6int (pretty good) in the last 9 14 tds 12 ints and that is with 4 tds against the Bills. What happened, Sanchez was having a decent year until the Bye week.
Yea he was all around pretty inconsistent though. The Broncos, Ravens games where I dont blame him too watch with the OL play, Giants Game, and a couple others in there where he just did not perform well. He was pretty obviously injured in my opinion too. Hopefully with a backup QB worth playing he won't have to play hurt and hurt the team. Well hopefully he just doesn't get hurt but we will see.
Everyone said that was to free up cap space, and the Jets also tried to get Peyton Manning, and then traded for Tebow. And oh yeah, they kept Cavanaugh.
Teams stacked the box last year because we did not have a viable deep threat, not because of "not fearing Sanchez". That will change this year with Hill.
I agree that was one issue last year, and Hill can definitely help that. However, of Sanchez's 543 pass attempts last year, 72 (13.2%) were thrown behind the LOS and 283 (52.1%) were thrown less than 10 yards. When 65% of of all pass attempts are thrown less than 10 yards, teams will continue to stack the box against the Jets offesne.
The issue was that we didn't have receivers who could stretch the field so a majority of the passes were short passes. There was no fear that Plax or Santonio would blow the top off the defense. Neither of them could. Hill can, and will definitely prove to be a big difference from Plax.
Schilens is a guy a lot of people are forgetting about but I'm excited to see what he can do if of course he stays healthy which is a big if. He has those kind of crazy combine numbers that Hill has. In 3 WR sets Hill and Schilens could open up a lot of space for Santonio or Keller.
Good point about Schilens. And even Kerley to a degree - although I think he'll be running more underneath option routes than downfield routes.
Yeah. Same logic. Really. Extending one's contract does not necessarily reflect one's good work - especially with this Jets brass. Was it that hard to understand for you?
It can still be done the other way around. I think it really just all depends on which side of the ball can be more consistent. If you can consistently pass for 8 yard slants the team is going to back off the line to cover that area of the field opening more space for running lanes. Alternatively if you can run at 4 or 5+ YPC on a consistent basis teams will begin to cheat their safeties in the box and load up with more DBS. Then you hit them long either with deep play action or quick passes into space. I do it all the time in Madden.
That a load of crap. It works both ways. Pass can open up the run, and run can open up the pass. If the oline struggles, both will struggle.
It would seem logical if they thought Cavanaugh was doing a poor job, as compared to Sanchez's own responsibilty for his failings, they would have found somebody else to be the Qb coach. Sanchez was already under contract. He had the coming year guaranteed. They needed cap space. None of those factors were comparable to Cavanaugh's situation. You are the one who was going on and on about a basic and severe flaw in Sanchez's mechanics. It would seem obvious the question right now is what is the likelihood that can and will be fixed. Otherwise, if it can't be fixed, the Jets are just wasting time continuing with Sanchez. And if it could be coached, then why has it not been so far? Well, since Cavanaugh has had that responsibility, and CONTINUES to have that responsibility, what does that say?
Schottenheimer survived for 6 years. 'Nuff said. In short, I have lost every sliver of my confidence in how this organization is run. That simple. Ok?
