Wow...There's a reason why Brees and Saints are far apart in contract negotiations. We all wanna send off Sanchez and Revis for Brees. While we are at it, how about we send off Bart Scott as well? That way, over $30 mil of cap space can be moved out, except, Saints don't have the luxury to take on that big of a cap charge. They would have signed Brees long time ago if they weren't limited with their cap. They might have room but every team plans for the future. Saints will not take Revis and Sanchez for Brees even if we threw in another 1st rounder.

I think they would have to offer Revis, Mangold, and a first rounder before NO even picks up the phone.

Any two players from our roster, but only one can be Revis or Mangold, plus a second round draft pick. He'd make that much of a difference.

Franchise QB is the easiest position to build around to create a SB contender. Everyone on this roster should be available for Brees. That includes: Revis/Mangold/etc.

I'd do Revis for Drew. Mangold, absolutely not. We can be the worst defense on passing plays and still make the SB. Look at NE last year. What more do you need. Elite QB + Worst pass defense in the NFL=SB appearance.

With that said. No way this ever happens. Give Ssnchez a chance with his new teammates/coaches. Hell be just fine.

But witha $20 million + salary hit for Brees, there would be no room under the cap to build anything.

New Orleans would have locked Brees up already if not for the cap issues as a poster previously pointed out. If the Saints end up re-signing Brees, they will have to cut players to make room which is the opposite of building around him.

I read 20-21 million per year. FWIW Saints have apparently offered him 19.2.

I would trade Revis for for Brees straight up. We could trade Sanchez to any other team (for a late rounder for all I care) , just to get rid of his Salary

    Tanny, get to work! LMAO

I'd trade Revis for Brees. No question. The D would still be solid under RR IMO and the gains on offense would be incomprehensible.

Too bad the Saints would laugh at that.

Do you really think a CB is worth the price of a top 3 QB in the NFL?

^Agreed. It'd take more than just Revis. But what? Revis + Sanchez + 1st/2nd

Disclaimer: this is just for shits and giggles, I like Sanchez as our QB, but if you have the chance at Brees you go for it.

Do you really think throwing in Sanchez would sweeten the deal? Im thinking not so much when you consider the amount of money the kid is making vs his mediocre QB skills lol

    Interesting concept by the OP.

I know the Jets are already thin, but I do think Brees would be a significant upgrade over Sanchez.

    I would therefore trade:

    Sanchez
    Kyle Wilson
    Thomas or Maybin
    Greene
    Keller

Perhaps a package with all those guys would be enough, and the Jets would not have to give up one core player.

Miami, remember having an opportunity to sign Brees but showed him the door instead? Remember?

Throwing in Sanchez is logical for the Jets since, as you point out, his contract would have to be unloaded to make room for Brees. But yeah, NO would probably not want him, although they might take a chance on him at a lower number.

But any thing like a move of this sort would require getting rid of Sanchez, no doubt about it.

If the Saints do trade Brees, I think they would be looking for draft picks.

I agree -if they lose Brees then they know they are not going to be competitive again in the near future so they would be looking to rebuild (i.e. do an Indianapolis Colts)

Our only realistic trade chip is untradeable because the accelerated bonus money would crush our cap. We couldn't trade for Brees.

I'm not even sure the Saints COULD trade Brees if he's not signing the franchise tender - I'm not saying they definitely can't, I just don't know if they can.
