You want him to be the primary reason the Jets get 15 sacks? as a rookie? jesus, how many guys cause 15 sacks in an NFL season? maybe 5-10 guys? Your expectations are sky-fucking high for a rookie, much less one that was taken in the middle of the round because of concerns about his motor. After watching him much more closely this offseason, I am convinced Coples is going to be a considerable asset from day 1 for us. But expecting pro bowl production from a rookie is never a good idea, I don't care who it is.
He won't be playing DT in the 4-3, at least not usually. We will have Wilk and Coples at DE and Pouha and DeVito at DT's.
I can see him getting a decent amount of snaps at DT in the 4-3. Don't forget we have guys like Pace and Maybin that can play 4-3 DE. I can see him being very effective in that role against the Pats - Brady can't handle interior pressure.
I say 4-6. I think he'll get a few real quick and then teams will focus on him more opening things up for other players.
Which, really, is just as good. I don't really care if he gets 0 sacks all season as long as the reason for it is teams are keying in on him which leaves openings for other people to get sacks or at least put a huge amount of pressure on the opposing QB.
In nickle situations I would expect him and wilkerson to bump inside. Our pass rushing Ends would be Pace and Maybin. His best season at UNC came as a 43 DT. Why would you not expect him to be there?
I think the DT's in a 4-3 front on passing downs are going to be Coples and Devito/Ellis at the other spot. I think the DE's are going to be Wilkerson and Calvin Pace. You can make an argument that except against a team that grounds and pounds the Jets best front four is Wilkerson, Coples, Devito/Ellis and Pace. Against a G&P team then you have Coples at DE and Pouha at the nose with Devito/Ellis at the 3T. How many teams are there that feature the run reliably enough to keep Pouha on the field in a 4-3? I can't think of many at this point after Baltimore and maybe Jacksonville.
This is something that would make me happy for the rest of my life. I don't wish harm or career ending injury on any athlete, but seeing every pats fan dream crash and burn, especially ones on this forum would be so fucking sweet. Maybe that'll finally get them to STFU and completely vanish from here. Im not religious but this is one thing that I'll be thanking the big guy for. Lol
that would be great Whoever does it on whatever team should be immediately awarded the NFL Man of the Year trophy
In a serious note though how long do you guys think Tom Brady has left in his career. He's about to be 35 before the season starts. I can see him having 3 typical years left and then dropping heavily in production. Would you think the Pats would try to trade an ancient Tom Brady right before his production drops to squeeze the most out of him.
not even bellicheck could justify that to the fanbase. Literally the only way its possible, is if they have an Aaron Rodgers/Brett Favre or a Steve Young/Joe Montana situation, and the backup is poised to begin a HOF career. If that happens and either Ryan Mallet or Brian Hoyer turn out to become great I swear I will drive to boston and strangle Bob Kraft myself
Haha very true. But I do think they will have Brady's successor lined up to take over while Brady is still on the team. If GB could do it to Favre who was loved like no other by that fan base then NE could do it to Brady. Its a business and getting the 2 firsts or whatever some dumb team would give up for an old Brady would be worth it in the end.
Coples dominant season was at 3T his junior year. I expect him to wind up there in the pass-rushing fronts as he settles in. As a DE he's similar to Shaun Ellis, which is not bad at all, but as a disruptive interior rusher he could be great.
