barlow is only 27yrs old, an experienced low milage rb. hes got good breakaway speed, great hands and he's had some good seasons in san fran. he wasnt motivated the last couple of years so i think its a fresh start for him. he could be our starter for the next 4-5 years. he's obviously very talented, no doubt about that.
depends - guess we gotta wait until all the particulars are released - if its not more than a 4th rounder with the triggers then its all good ...but if it creeps into day 1...its a problem

I guess the SF line just chose not to be horrible when Barlow was not carrying the ball, because Gore, who is not that special himself, averaged close to 5 yards a pop behind that same horrible line last year.
Just passing along what rotoworld thinks of the move. I've seen Barlow play the last few years as I get a lot of San Fran games where I'm at. He had an attitude in San Fran, he and his FB openly hated one another to the detriment to the team. He has some talent, but his heart and character have been questioned for some time now. Yeah I'm quite happy with the competition at RB now. I think Barlow is getting bashed too much, he was stuck on some awful 49er teams the last two years. I'm pulling for him to win the job if Martin can't come back.
Most at the 49ers board dislike the trade and believe he could have contributed more. He has good blocking skills and much potential.
Barlow Houston Blaylock and Washington is a solid core of Rb's whether you like them or not. We just need a DT and we'll be set.
Grady Jackson would be a wonderful stopgap. But that's getting greedy, and he has never played in a 3-4, but at 345 pounds, just be a clogger.
Even if he hasn't played in the 3-4, he would demand the double team that Robertson just doesn't. We need him, or someone like him for the 3-4 to work well. I cannot believe we're planning on going into the season with Robertson at NT right now. Why haven't we picked someone up??? I guess the CS and FO know better than us though. I hope.
At the end of the day... I dont understand how anyone can be upset at this trade. He is now the best running back on the team. Is he a great back? No. But he is better than Houston and more suited to be a lead back than the other 2? Without a doubt. Giving up a fourth round pick is not a big deal at all -- considering -- you never know what other picks they will add over time.
