So when Terry Bradway was GM--Mike Tannebaum was the cap specialist. Now Mike Tannebaum is GM and Terry Bradway is his head scout Can anyone explain to me the logic behind this? It seemed like we had good drafts when Mangini was in the room, but have sucked with numnuts Bradway running it. At least Mike T didn't trade a 1st round pick for Doug Jolley and Mike Nugent I guess....
i have a question for you are you eric mangini trying to get a job with the jets by creating fan buzz? if not, what is with you and mangini?
Really?!? WTF does Mangini have to do with anything you are asking in regards to the draft? 2006 (Mangini's first season as HC) happened to be the first year of Mike Tannenbaum running the show, with Bradway moving back to what he excelled at, scouting players and not worrying about financial or draft decision making. It's the same philosophy as why Bob Sutton is still on the Defensive Staff even though he was a terrible coordinator. He is/was good at coaching linebackers. Mangini personally fell in love with Gholston because he was scared that Belichick loved him and would make him a star. Mangini has/had a little brother syndrome worse than any coach/exec in the league the last few years. He is where he belongs, ESPN.
Oh c'mon you really think the Jets picked a player because they were scared of their rival getting him first? I thought it had something to do with Gholston being a physical freak of nature who completely steamrolled opponents in college.
Fantastic post. Yes Gholston completely stunk it up..but he was considered a freak coming out. Size, length, strength, power & straight line speed. All to go along with the single season sack record at Ohio State. Gotta give props to WW85 on his scouting report though. Extremely stiff in his hips, couldn't dip his shoulder & had no motor to speak of.
I was being a little dramatic about the Gholston element, I will admit that. The opening post seemed to give Mangini all the credit and all the blame to Tannebaum for not drafting Pro Bowlers, post-Magini, which is just as ridiculous.
There have been multiple articles outlining how nearly noone on the staff wanted Gholston except Mangini and he over rode the scouting and MT about the pick and went for it anyway. I'm not throwing Eric under the bus, just pointing out the facts to counter your pessimistic post.
Gholston looked like a can't miss prospect to me. That guy looked unbelievable in college. I never would have thought he would have totally flamed out like he did. But then again, I thought Andy Katzenmoyer was the best college linebacker I'd ever seen. hmy:
The HC runs certain schemes and will always have a say in what players are added via draft. No way MT would draft a DB that Rex didn't approve of. I'm sure when Mangini was here, he had a big say in all draft picks. A collective decision would be made between the HC, GM and scout dept. Mangini deserves a portion of credit for the 06-08 drafts and a giant F on the Gholston pick. Overall Mangini was associated with good drafts. Bradway trading up to draft Dewayne Robertson (with Herman and scouts' approval I'm sure) was pretty retarded as well, especially with the knee condition already there.
Gholston looked like a bust then and still is now. Whoever pled his case to be drafted was probably reprimanded severely.
... mikey t is one of the best in the business ... we are very lucky to have him at the top of our football pyramid ... l_j_r
Yes and Ralph Wilson will be 6 Feet under by the end of the season... WHO is buying the Bills? Thurman and Jim? HAHA Maybe a Toronto based firm. I would focus my time and efforts on the BILLS office; they are a mess. How is that Spiller guy working out for you? As usual, the Bills are overhyped based on FA, now all you "Bills fans" have a voice....
It makes no sense that the brain trust for the Jets has been essentially unchanged outside the coaching positions since 2001. If the Jets were better it would make sense. The Giants got to a Super Bowl in 2000 and made the playoffs twice after that up to 2006 but they changed the head coach after 2004 and the GM after 2006 because they were unhappy with their results. The changed structure produced two Super Bowl titles in 5 seasons. Tannenbaum and Bradway should have been shown the door after 2007. And yes I recognize that we got to two AFC title games in 2009 and 2010 but that was the apex for this regime.
