    But if you asked what was good to eat, you may not get a reply.

    If we're just going to pick a former coach for the job at random, I submit Al Groh. At least the man knows linebackers and has a lot of familiarity with the current college players. Mangini.....well he was on the Sopranos. That's what I look for in a GM.

  4. You all do realize that most front offices have a football/personnel people(IE Bradway) & they also have a Finance/Risk assessment/business people (Tannenbaum).Regardless of who the GM is there are always other people behind the scenes handling different aspects.In the Jets case..the man in charge happens to be the Non football guy. That isn't to say he doesn't get his knowledge FROM the football people. Besides, Tannenbaum has been involved in the Jets organization long before he was GM. He started with Parcells in 97, and although his background is in legal/sports finance..I guarantee he knows more about football than anyone on this board. After all, he was known for observing and studying the philosophies of Parcells, Ron Wolf, & Al Davis.

    Kirwin, Steinburg,Haley,etc were all football guys. Did they fare any better than Tannenbaum? Has ANY GM fared better than Tannenbaum in this team's history?

    Fuck Mangina! That piece of shit can't walk and chew gum at the same time. The only place that this bum could get a job with was ESPN.

    The reply would be - "It's hard to say and there are a lot of things to consider..."

    So yeah - your right. :)

    The success we had in 2009 and 2010 had a lot to do with the drafts that Mangini had. I think going into next year, this is finally rex's team, the team he drafted, the team he envisioned.

  8. This is for sure Rex's team now..but acouple things to consider..

    1. Rex never had the early draft picks OR cap space that Mangini was subject to while here. in fact, the top 8 rule greatly affected the Jets ability to build off year one or 2 under Rex.

    2. On the contrary, the facilities/medical staff/resources have been considerably more fruitful for Rex. Mangini was only around the new facility for its first year. When Rex came along all the facilities were all system go. They are the best facilities in the NFL and it surely makes a difference on game day.

    Should Rex stick around post 2012(almost a certainty) we'll really see a contrast in 2013. Some big contracts AND/OR pieces will be coming off the books in Pace,BT,Scott,Moore & Possibly Keller.

    We have a GM. Mike Tannenbaum is EXCELLENT. No need for Mangini at all.

    Not for GM.

    I can see him as head of scouting though.

    So Mangina was in charge of all the bad personel decisions the Jets made and Tannenbaum the good ones? LOL

    I cant even take this Thread Title serious. Eric Mangenious Vs. Mike Tannenbaum. Now ; I'm tough on Tanny but I would never suggest a Very average coach could ever fill the shoes of a Seasoned GM Like Tannenbaum. Eric Mangini would be hard pressed to Ever see the coaches seat ever again , but Mike would definitely Get more then a second look if he was no longer the Jets GM.

    I think Mangini Rat out the Pats because he knew first hand they were stealing call . I even believe he was aided by this cheating Practice. No thanks!

    1) Mangini didn't just pick Gholston, he went against everybody in the organization to pick Gholston.

    2) Mangini had a young Vilma on his roster & couldn't figure out how to use him. The same Vilma anchoring Saints D in their SB year. This was a different type of FAIL than Gholston who was a wasted pick. Vilma was a talented player that he just couldn't figure out how to use.

    3) Mangini's time with Cleveland was nothing special. Two years of 5-11 and today's Browns team is not filled with big players from their Mangini era.

    ===
    Only reason to even consider Mangini is because the organization is looking for a familiar name and too lazy to actually look at other teams in the league.

    There are organizations out there that have built teams through draft and achieved incredible success like: Steelers, Ravens, Packers, Bengals/Texans/Lions are on the rise, etc... Why not poach somebody from these organizations instead of bringing back somebody with zero GM experience who also failed as a HC.

    No problem with giving him a front office job because he actually has experience on the field. However, he hasn't shown enough to be given the reins as coach or GM for the Jets again.

    ===
    tldr:
    NO way he should be hired as GM

  16. Don't forget D rob as well. People get blinded by where he was drafted but before Mangini brought in his strict 2 gap scheme..D rob was one of the better players on the Jets roster & a fantastic 1 gap under tackle. Mangini tried to turn him into a "read & react" fill type..which he was never meant to be

    I give Mangini credit for the Brick, Revis and Mangold picks. They have his signature on them: look at what he did in Cleveland, drafting another very talented corner and solid center in Joe Haden and Alex Mack.

    Having said that, Mangini deserves blame for the Gholston pick. He was probably the brains behind the pick. "Mr. T" is just a figure head, a glorified salary cap specialist.

    Tannenbaum deserves blame for being clueless about football. Since he's clueless, he has to rely on football people to basically do his thinking for him. Yet as GM the buck officially stops with him. Tannenbaum is a joke. He knows nothing about the game. Trading up to take Keller in the 1st is an embarrassment when you can get a Gronk in the 2nd and Jimmy Graham at the end of the 3rd.

    How does a guy with no playing, coaching, or scouting experience whatsoever -- correct me if I'm wrong -- get a job as GM of an NFL franchise? Tell me that would ever happen with the Steelers or NY Giants, teams that regularly contend for and win Super Bowls.
