Yeah, the first 200+ pages are kind of slow, but as soon as I realized this was more of a political thriller than a fantasy epic, I was much more interested.
I've never read the books, but I only found it confusing for the first few episodes. After that, I had no problem following along.
The writers keep it streamlined pretty nicely for the show...Obviously in the books there are tons of names and more shit going on
I haven't read the books either. Every time I pick up one at the library or book store and leaf through it, it doesn't seem like something I would want to read. I have the books and want to read them, but I don't want spoilers for the tv show. Hopefully after this season it'll be safe to read the first two books.

Next two episodes will be epic, stick with it. I agree that the second season started getting a little off topic but there's so much epicness to come.

Best episode of the season. Not just the action but great dialog also. Tyrion and the eunuch had me laughing, and the Hounds lines. Wtf with Tywin? Thought he was off to battle Rob.
Agree. Best episode of the series. It is impossible not to love Tyrion. He really showed what he is made of in this episode. I expect that Tywin will still not appreciate him. Joffrey isn't half the man Tyrion is....too bad The Hound didn't rape his corpse. Edit - Although I will say, that the battle was very reminiscent of The Battle of Helms Deep in LOTR-TT. I kind of have mixed feelings about this, because with that might be my favorite part of the LOTR trilogy, but I also felt like I had seen it before.

I have read the books, although its been years since I did, but without giving away any spoilers, I think some of the storylines are out of sync for what we have seen where the books are concerned. Someone who has read them more recently could probably confirm that.
