Dick Cimini is the best NY Jets beat writer that any Patsies fan could hope for.

Media are using Jets as a get-away-with-bullshit-card nowadays.

    - One team tried to trade up for Weeden at pick #3.
    - No way, I call bullshit.
    - It was the Jets.
    - Oh, ok then.

It's all propaganda to get the players and fans to turn against the Jets. It won't work.

If we had taken Irvin at 16 instead of Coples (or Ingram, etc), a lot of heads would have exploded. So glad we didn't.

Irvin was one of the first guys I saw and said Wow. That being said, there are certain types of guys you can't bring into NYC. I think he is one of them.

I don't believe the Jets ever would've taken Irvin at 16.

id rather have a guy who does 1 thing well(irvin) -- then a guy who has the ability to do everything well, but doesnt have the drive to do anything well(coples)

Lack of drive has been exaggerated. The UNC program was a total mess. 20 people kicked off, coach fired & I'm sure in the locker room there had to be players looking transfer out. Lots of these other draft picks that everyone's raving about would've had their production drop off under those circumstances too.

Rex & Tanny aren't just blindly assuming they can put heart into a quitter.

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...ft-new-york-jets-standing-pick-quinton-coples
    * Rex reached out to a former colleague who coached Coples @ UNC.
    * Current Jet on their roster who is a former team mate also vouches for the guy.

    ==
Also, if Coples just didn't give a damn why would he come back to play senior year?

This whole quitter attitude is just people blindly quoting/repeating everybody else. The original source is some anonymous scout for another team?? Nobody that has worked with him personally has publicly questioned his motor. Also what is the logic for turning down the draft after his junior year when he's guaranteed to be a top pic & then coming back to tank on his team.

Stop this damn BS about quitting and not having heart & use some sense man. Rex & Tanny reached out to people who PERSONALLY coached and played with Coples BEFORE the selection.

I'm surprised Mo Wilkerson flat out said "he's better than me."

  11. Great post & spot on. But ya know what? Let the media & haters keep coming up with any reason they can to create controversy & negativity surrounding the Jets. This team is at their best when their backs are up against the wall.

Now the team & fans know how it is. There are no friends in the league or in the media. Good to know. Winning with class went out the window a long time ago.

did you watch any UNC games? its not that he is a quitter... that would imply he played hard and stopped. he simply never plays hard

  13. ..And yet still managed to have 7.5 sacks & 15.5 tackles for loss while playing out of position. All in the ACC. What does that tell you?

Miami - UNC, 2011. 27-10 in the third (2:50 into the clip) and the game almost already lost for UNC.

First play: Coples almost gets to the QB despite having a Tackle hanging on him.
Second play : Coples pushes his lineman 4 yards back and tackles the ball-carrier for a loss.

Sure looks like a quitter that never plays hard...

So you criticize them for not reaching in Rd 1 for a one dimensional guy who wasn't even projected to go in Rd 1 and then you also criticize them for taking a guy in Rd 2 who was projected higher because he's one dimensional. It seems pretty obvious that you would find a way to rip any decision that they made. You're a pretty miserable fan.

That has to be a bullshit story. Who has time to call another team just to tell them they took your guy?

  18. Teams make calls to one another to run through "trade scenarios" and such all the time during the draft.During this time frame teams do offer friendly razzing back & fourth about players selected.

I don't doubt the Jets liked Irvin..I just don't think they expected him to go in the top 20 Picks. Perhaps they planned on trading down into the 20's where they could justify taking him or trading back into the late 1st to nab him.

This is so Media driven silly.......

The Jets and Seattle made a deal later on.. Jets "Complimented" an earlier pick..

    It means absolutely NOTHING!!!!!!!

It could mean any of a number of things but, is probably meaningless banter to start off a negotiation.....

Funny NY Media had NO CLUE as to what pick the Jets were going to make and they have no clue on this - they throw crap against the wall all day..

I see the Revis crap flying again today.

Oh great now the Jets-Seattle game will have some huge storyline heading into it and the media will hype it up completely.
