I would much rather spend a 2nd or 3rd rounder on a 22 year old RB than a rb that will be 28 this year. How many good years does McAllister have left 2,3,4? Will he be back this year at full strength or next year when he turns 29? I would rather not overpay for a RB with question marks who will be 30 in 2 years. We all know how short RB careers are and how quickly they fade after 30. I have nothing buit respect for McAllister but I would rather not overpay for him or any other RB unless its a steal. RB's are the easiest position player to find. Unless we are contending this year I don't see the need to mortgage the future for a player who may only play for us for a few productive years.
Isn't next year's draft "The Year of the Franchise Running Back?" I'd rather use the extra 2nd rounder to trade up in the first (if necessary) and take Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch in next year's draft.
Answer: A sure thing The draft is a crap shoot. Let's give Deuce a shot. It's not like he's Carson Palmer and throwing TD's left and right only to be struck down in the first 5 minutes of a playoff game and have his future in doubt. No injuries never happen to anyone else. Ever.
I'm really trying to understand how some of you could not want him... You all are complaining and wanting a back so bad, Barlow or Duckett, Barlow i'd be alright with, but neither of these 2 compare to Deuce...You say you want a powerback with some nice speed in Duckett... Deuce has carried the load, carried his offense, proven to be a bruiser who can bust a big one at any time... What is the problem with getting a guy who can keep your shaly defense off the field for most of the time? Or would you rather have last year? Where the defense would be on the field close to 45 minutes?
McAllister is 28 and coming of knee surgery. The Saints will be giving him away if Bush is any good just to avoid paying his salary.
When the average running backs tenure in the NFL only last 5 years, 28 is getting old.......and I thought the J E T S were rebuilding........
The problem here is people on this board value draft picks WAY too highly. Yes, you can get a stud. You can also get a lemon. The Saints want to deal McAllister. I wouldn't give up a #1, simply because I think the knee injury risk with McAllister doesn't warrant doing so. However, to think because some draft idiot.. I mean expert... called next year's draft the year of the franchise back to not take an NFL top back now is just incredibly stupid if the price is not too high. I get a kick out of the people who just say, "pass" or "he's garbage" Oh really? 2001 nor | 16 | 16 91 5.7 1 | 15 166 11.1 1 | | 2002 nor | 15 | 325 1388 4.3 13 | 47 352 7.5 3 | | 2003 nor | 16 | 351 1641 4.7 8 | 69 516 7.5 0 | | 2004 nor | 14 | 269 1074 4.0 9 | 34 228 6.7 0 | | 2005 nor | 5 | 93 335 3.6 3 | 17 117 6.9 0 Now remember, the saints BLEW last year (with all the problems) so he wasn't going to run too well, but look at the numbers. They're VERY solid. I would make sure that knee is where it needs to be. If it is, I pull the trigger. If it's not good, then obviously I do not. By good, I mean READY TO GO NOW ON 8/18. He did not play in preseason game #1 and that worries me....
I would do it without the 1500 yard contingency-hes just not worth a 1st and 2nd no matter how much he does.
Then New Orleans wouldn't do it... It's actually BETTER that the Saints would do a 1500 yard landmark...I mean really... Tell me a RB coming off a torn ACL who has rushed for over 1300 in his return year, much less 1500... He's not rushing for that much behind this OLine and with defenses stacked to stop him, it will just not happen... I'm actually surprised New Orleans would make that the milestone...If I were them I say 1200 or something along those lines.
I did hear the entire segment - Mike said he was speaking to Tanny about the need for a rb and Tannenbaum said he would make the best deal for the team if there was a deal to be made - he never said Tannenbaum was talking to NO nor did he say that Duece was mentioned. Mike did say if he could make a trade he'd do the following things propose a trade to NO which included a 2nd rounder that had the potential of being a first, and a 3rd rounder. A restructured contract that wouldn't hurt the cap as much and incentives - that was it this so called rumor is not even at that stage...
a) You couldn't find anything better, that guys great, wake freakin up. b) that being said, ain't happenning.
Just say NO to McAllister. Just say NO to N.O. Ain'ts. We ain't getting this injury-prone bust. Hell, if he was that great and durable, why would the Ain'ts even consider drafting Bush with him already at RB position?
Isn't that all the more reason to pass on the guy? He's 28 now, and history tells us that it takes a year to come back from that injury, so he'll be 29 before he can produce like he did 3 years ago. By the time he's 30, the Jets will be in the market for another HB. Why give up a 2nd for a stop gap? oh, and btw, Edge didn't get 1000 till his 3rd year after injuring his knee. and even then, he only averaged about 4.1 ypc. Not very explosive at all.
wtf is wrong with u people, ran for 1300 yards circa every year before the knee injury, he was hands down a top 5 running back, and he can be the same, and instead u want an unproven RB, u guys r real dueshes....
